The truly sad thing is that all this "malware" are just trojans, which quite frankly BARELY classifies as "malware". There are no worms or browser vulnerabilities allowing for unathorized code execution in Android. You can't get infected just by browsing a site or plugging an SD card/USB stick (like it happens on non updated windows system). Android is very safe. It's not Android fault if you download bad apps (aka trojans) from unofficial sites. There are trojans even in MacOS X.

But McAfee will probably cash in from their new antivirus anyway...

if McAfee is anything like other virus and PC security systems like Norton or Trend Micro, it is often falsely identifying any root enabling software as a threat.

Thanks a lot to the vendors for deleting the crucial files, ROMs and even Titanium Backup files I have that enable rooting my phones--the devices I bought with my own money!

These vendors probably have a vested interested in selling "security" software for mobile platforms even when a rooted Android phone is probably the most secure mobile wireless device around.

There should be some deeper fact checking in the Tech community before these stories are blindly parroted.

I've had my EVO for well over a year now and I have never experienced any malware issues. As long as people look at what they are downloading before they do it then they should have no issues at all.

Derpy response from droidboi"well duh if.you dont check permissions blah blah blah.."

What happens when you do, but the permissions are minimal for the apps supposed task, but It's still malware? In the case accessing you cam, full internet access, contacts access, email access.. the example app might be a funny hat app that allows you to email pics to friends..
