Masters of the Universe feature film reboot director list gets shorter

If you grew up in the 80's, odds are you will have some fond memories of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The action figures were everywhere in the 80's along with plenty of platy sets. I spent many a day watching the cartoon growing up.

You might also recall back in 1987 a feature film with Dolph Lundgren playing He-Man hit theaters. Even though I was a fan of the toys growing up and the cartoon, I remember thinking that original feature film was quite cheesy, even for late 80's fare.

That Masters of the Universe films is getting a reboot. The movie had a director attached previously with Jon M. Shu, the director of the GI Joe films. Chu dropped out of the project for some reason. That has left the studio looking for a new director. Word is that the short list for directors is getting shorter.

Two directors are now in the running with Harald Zwart, best known for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and Mike Cahill, best known for Another Earth. I don't know if this is good news or not, the film has had several drafts written by different people. The most recent draft for the film is from Terry Rossio, who wrote The Lone Ranger. The Lone Ranger was a horrible film, hopefully the new He-Man flick is better.
