No the entire point of 'faith'. The faith you are talking about is religious faith. Religion was created to control the masses, at least that is how it has been mostly used in the last couple of thousand years. Those outside the chosen faith of the land were/are condemed. It leads only to many people thinking and believing untrue things and ignoring common sense.

You missed the point that, that the things the scientist show through their telescope were the things of the past around 36000 light years old becuse the light from the center of the galaxy would have taken so much time to reach here and so we were able to see it...so if we now see the explotion that means the rays have already reached us may hit us anytime soon...this way 2013 could be the possible time.

Don't be ignorant. The LHC is far from being capable of creating a black hole anywhere near massive enough to be even the slightest bit threatening. Hawking discovered relatively recently that Black Holes actually dissipate over time through Hawking Radiation, which decreases the mass of the Black Hole and will eventually cause it to cease to exist. Another property of this effect is that the smaller a black hole is, the faster it will "evaporate." So anything that even resembles a black hole made over in Switzerland would evaporate almost instantaneously.

You liberals crack me up. If you weren't so damn scared of nuclear power and improbable nuclear meltdowns all over the planet, we would all be running off an extremely renewable, clean, and efficient power source and 80 percent of carbon emissions attributed to your fictional global warming would be eliminated.

And now you say that particle research is going to make a black hole that will suck us all up and destroy the world. This crap gets to be so repetitive I swear everyone is getting together to make one gigantic global flash mob playing a prank on the few individuals that missed the memo.

Only line-shaped things can be lined, like more than 2 dots, because if you don't consider this, all 2 different space things are "lined". If we're "lined" with galaxy center and other things, that things should "shield us". Unless galaxy center projects rays "aiming" at earth and no other else direction(like a LASER galaxy center) the potency will be dispersed in various directions. I think Earth won't stay "lined" to galaxy center for too much time waiting for a ray burst to get a tan. Well, I'm confused about this lined thing and the radioactive unidirectional ray. It seens that we'll drown in our own garbage before it happens. I think Earth 2.0 will be and upgrade removing the human scourge that keeps it from being a good place. I'm not in favor of extiction, but I can't be proud of my race comrades deeds.

When you say "just happening or appearing" you make it sound as though it just came to be overnight despite the fact that it took billions of years. This you have trouble accepting but you don't have trouble accepting that a divine being just snapped his fingers and created everything in 6-days. In terms of logical thinking - I've not seen you demonstrate it up to this point.

I worry for people who think this is some cause for concern. If something catastrophic were to happen in 2012, which I'm positive won't, this is definitely not it. Knowing and understanding some details instead of filling in the blanks yourself puts things into perspective. First, this gas cloud is reported at having only 3 times the mass of Earth. There are denser planets in this solar system than that cloud. Our solar system is around 26 - 28,000 light years away from the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. If you don't anything about a light year, it's basically the distance light travels in one earth year (approx. 10 trillion kilometers)... and that's REALLY FREAKING FAR. If you're worried about a little x-ray from that distance, you need to stop. So have a Coke and smile and leave the rest up to the universe.

But again, the existence of gods and their intentions is entirely outside the realm of provability. That's the entire point of faith.

Fire is tangible. You can see it, smell it, feel it. It is and always was understandable, though perhaps not always understood. You can observe its behavior and test it. It is fundamentally provable as to how it works, why it works, what it does. Gods are not provable. If aliens showed up tomorrow and said "Oh hey, we gave your species the idea of Christianity about 2000 years ago" then religion would expand to encompass this and answer even larger, unprovable, questions. Who is God's God?

If you are mathematically inclined, you could say that religion exists at infinity. As knowledge pushes further and further outward, religion exists to fill that infinitely empty void outside of our understanding that we could never hope to fill in hundreds, thousands, or millions of generations of our species. Faith exists /by definition/ just beyond our ability to test it, and thus /by definition/ coexists with science as a fully orthogonal space of thought.

When it is impossible to determine a "correct" answer from an infinitely large set of answers of equal probability, there is little more one can do than pick the most personally aesthetically pleasing answer. That answer takes the form of one's religion.

It's something to look forward to, huh??? Why hasn't anyone talked about the speed of light? Gamma rays, X-rays different wavelengths of the same stuff, photons traveling at approx. 300,000km/sec (180,000 mi/sec). Even at that speed, how long will it take the burst to reach Earth? If I remember even closely, we are 36000 light years from the center of our galaxy. That means it will take that burst 36000 years to get here after it happens...worse things to worry about that are more likely much closer and more terrifying!

Thanks for listening,

Donn P. Simmons

Quite honestly, being agnostic myself. I would much rather bet my life there is no god and be wrong. Explain to me this: if god created us, who created god? Because if you give me the same explanation that I got from my history teacher, and god created us so in turn, we "created" god? Well that is like asking which came first, the chicken, or the egg. Like you said atheist or not. Something will happen. This had no ties to religion whatsoever, there is no science proving religion. Science and religion are natural opposites, and should never be combined in my opinion.

Actually, you need to do some research before you speak because "science" says that it's far MORE likely than not to have another planet out in the universe that is like ours. Earth has been around for about 45 billion years and the Universe has been around for much longer that. To think that we are the only planet with life, intelligent life at that, is just plain ignorant to say the least.
