The figures quoted substantiate that if you assume a linear improvement in a CPU benchmark on the same class of CPU as the clock-speed increases.

Clearly, that does not account for the difference.

I guess Apple got fed up with Nvidia after a number of their failed graphics chips prompted free repairs out of warranty period for up to 3 years after purchase.
