Micky, I agree with your opinion, however, the 17" MBPs will retain the optical drive and will also get the power/speed bump, as well as, a more powerful longer lasting battery, so there will be an option for whomever chooses to go that route when buying a new Ivy Bridge MBP.

Isn't amazing that this article is almost one month old and still gets comments?

You know if I they are going to get rid of the optical drive. I would rather see a bump up in power and battery then a thinner mac. How thin it is really doesn't matter anymore... If I wanted thin I would buy the macbook air. I want power and long battery life. Make it even thicker then this one if they want to. I don't use my current MBP because it looks good, I use it for its guts.

Mr. Lui, FWIW, the best time to buy a computer is usually NOT at the end of a calendar year, units are most often at their lowest prices around the first quarter of a given year and whenever a new generation is introduced, thus automatically necessitating a price drop on previous generation(s) models. In the case of Apple the next best price cycle is almost here, once the Ivy Bridge Macs are released the Sandy Bridge predecessors will drop in price, furthermore, the early 2011 Sandy Bridge models which are just slightly less powerful/capable than the current Sandy Bridge models (which are basically a minor 'speed bump' compared to their predecessors of early 2011) will become a bargain when compared to their original retail and sale prices, currently there are early 2011 Sandy Bridge 17" MacBook Pros being sold for as much as $700.00 off their discounted price of last summer which was lower than their original retail prices, that is for single unit purchases, anyone considering a multi-unit purchase of even as low as two Macs can and should negotiate/haggle for a further discount. I plan to buy two of such 17" MacBook Pros as soon as the Ivy Bridge units are released, I have been keeping tabs on the inventory of a particular vendor that still has hundreds of such units in stock and has been selling them at 'Blowout Discount' since mid-January. How do I know how many units such vendor has in stock? Simple, the vendor lists the numbers of such units in inventory on a daily, real time basis on its website, since I have been keeping tabs on the inventory two or three times a day and taking screenshots of it, I'll be able to use that information to my advantage at purchase time. I can hardly wait.

I'm considering getting a Macbook Pro by the end of this year but I hope Apple will retain the option for an optical drive for the 15 inch version of the Macbook Pro because I personally use the optical drive fairly frequently on my current Windows laptop and would like to still be able to read all the cd's and dvd's on my future Macbook Pro.
