I ordered, and just received my MacBook Air 13" -128 GB model. I purchased this model because I wanted to make it the most portable functional laptop I could. I already have a Windows based HP Laptop and love it for just at home. I'm really excited because I wanted a ultra portable laptop that I didn't have to "lug" the heavier one just for online work and quick document creation. I think really even though it's the most expensive in the "ultra portable" category, but just like Paul posted, it does represent some expensive technology. I've read the criticisms regarding the lack of a built in CD ROM drive. I have to honestly say, I really don't even use the connected to my Windows laptop all that much. (Just to import songs, perhaps install software, etc). I really don't intend to use this laptop as the primary storage for documents and pictures so that's not going to be a real big issue for me either. So is it a luxury then ? - Some would argue and say yes, other no. For me it's a little in between the two. All in all, I'm pretty excited to start actually using it for productive purposes - With the new OS, the updated hardware features, I put in my order in and I'm not regretting any moment of it !

What's more interesting than the backlit keyboard and faster CPU as far as "addressing criticisms" is that I believe this is the first time Apple has ever offered a worthwhile high-end laptop model. It used to be that you got an 8% faster CPU and a bit more graphics memory for your $300 upgrade. Now, you get something practical that would cost you real money aftermarket (if you could buy it aftermarket) in the form of a big fat SSD upgrade and 4GB of RAM. I've always bought base models of whatever size Mac laptop in the past, but this time around I bought the one with the worthwhile upgrades in it. Interesting change in business strategy, Apple.
