The best Winblows machine you can get is a MacPro ...
The new FCP (X) is a sweet and beautiful program, that will only get better with up dates.
Their one real sin was not opening older FCP files ... (but they're working on it)

Avid is just another name for MicroSloth :o) ... it's owner!
And Media -De-Composer has the ugliest User-Interface look of any program I've seen running on my Mac.

In a couple of months we'll have a 16 cell monster that will eat 50-bits-per-secound video
with a smile ... and leave any HP mac-wanta--be it the dust.

Wow! Happy New Year to you Buzz Kills too! I don't play games and do a little bit of video editing, but I do crunch some serious numbers and can't wait to get my hands on the Next Gen Mac Pro! HP..come on..how much fun would that be. Do they offer free development software? Do they offer an OS X, Windows and Linux running on the same computer? There is still a market for these machines, it just takes time to make the upgrade worth while. I agree, Apple needs to do incremental market adjustments between cycles, but come ... there are many different kinds of professionals besides graphic artists and video editors that use OS X and high end computers and we are excited about this rumor.

Mac Pro will die. If Apple really cared about the professional user they would have made FCP a professional software. Not a Prosumer software.

Plus look at the Flash fiasco as well. Apple was very close with Adobe at the beginning. Now? It's HP, Avid and Adobe. Simply put, if you are looking at this grade of machine, you will be wanting to buy an HP, not a Mac Pro. HP, Avid and Adobe have teamed together to make HP optimized to run Avid and Adobe software. Meaning if you want the best machine for video/audio/photography/graphics arts/illustration/etc.. your choice is HP.

"suggesting that the high-end Radeon HD 7970 or the 7950 could be an option in future configurations."

HAH! If past models are to go by, it'll be a 77xx or 76xx series. Mac Pros have never been bundled with high-end GPUs. The current ones ship with 5770's for crying out loud.
