Logitech Introduces New Optical Gaming Mouse G400

We all know the importance of having a good mouse if you're working at your computer for long periods of time. But for gamers, its even more important to have a mouse with just the right layout of buttons, ergonomics, and speed. Logitech announced today the launch of their latest gaming mouse, the Logitech Optical Gaming Mouse G400. It doesn't look as cool as the Mad Catz Cyborg R.A.T. mouse we saw recently, but it's the successor to Logitech's MX518, which is their best-selling gaming mouse ever.

For the new G400, Logitech made sure to keep and not mess with what they got right in the MX518, but to only enhance it. They kept the same shape, tracking consistency, button layout, and "legendary" durability. What they improved was upgrading the 1800 DPI sensor to 3600 DPI, increasing the report rate from 125 to 1000 reports per second, and adding an optional button programming software. They also made the USB cable thinner and 25% lighter to help make mouse movements even easier.

The upgrade in sensor DPI allows for high-speed turns without wide hand sweeps or losing fidelity by turning up cursor speed. DPI levels are adjustable and tracking consistency remains the same. The bumped up 1000 reports per second is the fastest that a USB can communicate, which means there's never a lag between your hand movements and what you see on screen. All movement and button clicks are read by the computer close to real-time.

As for the new button programming software, it's the same one used for programming G-Series keyboards and the Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard. It has an intuitive drag and drop interface that also has automatic game detection, macro, and scripting capabilities. It includes profiles for 210 games and you can create new profiles for other games.

The Logitech Optical Gaming Mouse G400 will be available in the U.S. starting June 19 and then worldwide by mid-July. It will be priced at $49.99. You can visit the product page for more information.
