Without the ability to “archive” notes the pen becomes useless after you fill up the 4 notebooks. We’re still waiting for this feature nearly half a year later.

As a former developer for the Livescribe pen, I was disheartened to learn they completely shut down the developer program back in July of 2011. I am very surprised to see that Livescribe is opening this up again.

You don’t have to buy the paper, they have a download so you can print it yourself, but if you want a notebook, buy theirs, they are not outrageously expensive, and nor is the ink.

You have to use the special Livescribe notebooks, as the smartpen system can’t track your writing on regular paper. And yes, you can replace the pen part with refills.

What if run out of paper? Do I have to buy that special paper or does it work with regular paper? What if I run out of ink? Are refills available?
