Linux Mint Lisa is excellent boots and loads much faster than windows and anything you can do on windows you can do on Mint and of course its free.

I’ve been using Mint since 7 Gloria and OpenSuse Since 1999
love it way better than windows!

While you make a valid point, as an ex-Ubuntu enthusiast soured by their “slap in the face” to the wants and needs of their user base, I can tell you that I personally have seen much less animosity among Mint users over the Mint decision making process. While Ubuntu may still be “winning” in desktop numbers, their days in this position are numbered. I can’t imagine anything they could do to regain the trust and support of their user base at this point. For everyone who liked Unity, I saw at least one person who hated it, at least among users who were familiar with the traditional Ubuntu layout. Furthermore, I truly believe it is an Ubuntu problem, not a Gnome 3 problem. I am currently running Linux Mint Debian Edition with Gnome 3 and I am actually quite enjoying it. I downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 to see if they had ironed out the quirks in their Unity offering, but to me it has no appeal.

Linux Mint in my eyes has earned it’s position as the highest ranked Linux distribution.

haven’t allowed winblows in the house since 92, I play OS Roulette pretty regularly and have tried them all, Ubuntu was my daily driver until Gnome 3 turned my computer into an Ipod, tried using KDE and IceWm but just couldn’t get it where i wanted it, so, dual booting right now, Mint 11 oem/ Ubuntu 9.07 64 server, mint is almost there but still needs some tweeks,

I have two towers under my desk, one Win 7 and one Ubuntu. Unity is such a POS that I’m going to switch the Ubuntu to either Mint or plain vanilla Debian as soon as I get a chance.

Ubuntu here, as a secondary install for my web-surfing laptop. The other OS is XP, which honestly runs faster on this machine than Ubuntu… particularly in these more recent releases. I also can’t hibernate/standby on that laptop (HP zd7000) in Ubuntu, though I hear other releases can do this just fine. I may need to give Mint a try for that reason alone.

I built a Myth system for a while (until cable cards and digital transitions screwed with us again) and it worked wonderfully. Fact is, originally, it was a Win2k HTPC, and it worked for a short time in the beginning, then would start stuttering and skipping all the time. MythBuntu never did that, and was a flawless system… I miss that. I’m on Tivo boxes now (due to cable card requirements)… so sad.

I used to use Windows, but 7 was too slow and buggy. The Mac price and lack of options were shows toppers for me. I switched to Ubuntu and learned about Linux prior to Unity, fortunately – because though I use Ubuntu now, I have installed also the traditional menu for finding programs I seldom use with names I cannot recall e.g Meld (an awesome find!). I will test Mint again on my desktop which has none of my development tools, several of which I had to rebuild after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10 . I am now spoiled with the choices of software that Linux provides and the speed I am able to get on an almost 4 year old HPNx6325

FWIW, Mint is *NOT* that most popular open source OS, Paul. Topping the DistroWatch Page Click leaderboard does not translate to having the largest install base of any Linux Distro.

I have been using Ubuntu for 3 years now. I changed unity for gnome shell 3 in the latest release and i love it. Will try mint on a usb stick to see.

I switched to Ubuntu XFCE because of the new Unity desktop in standard Ubuntu. Over the last several months I’ve basically used Linux exclusively, I have a Win XP VM for when I have to interface with work.

I use Opensuse, and have done for 8 or so years. Linux is more fun, thats why I use it, also because free and open.

Most of the time I use OS X and Windows,
and sometimes I use Ubuntu just for fun because most of the tools I use work
with OSX and Win… Now I am downloading Mint to see how it works!!!
