The LunarStorm members left the site for Bilddagboken (later aquired by LunarStorm) during 2007-2008, perhaps because of a major key staff drop-off during 2006. At that time Facebook wasn’t popular amongst Swedish teens. But I guess Bilddagboken are feeling the Facebook burn pretty heavily today though – when Facebook finally has become a major teen player.

What a brilliant way of insinuating that people need LinkedIn as much as Facebook and more than Google+!!!! hats off to you Mr. Weiner. I have not yet committed to LinkedIn as I have not yet received one single penny, not one rel business lead from LinkedIn. If LinkedIn does nothing but take more of our time, which is the case so far.. it’s not worth anything either. Put up or shut up.

I stopped really using Facebook a while ago. The way I see it, Facebook’s layout is simple. There’s junk I don’t care about on the right, junk I don’t care about on the left, and about 90% of what’s in the center is junk I don’t care about. It leaves me with about 10% useful/interesting information that I have to spend my time skimming for.

G+ However, I have Hangouts on the right (useful, and the 3+ way video chat is awesome), Sparks and Chat on the left (useful), and me being able to limit who I get notices about (AKA: they’re in my circles, not that I’m in theirs) means that the information in the middle is far more useful. That, and I can see notices anytime I’m logged in to my Google account, which I use for Gmail and Docs.

So… If I have 1 hour to spend on a social networking site, why would I waste it with the junk on Facebook? I want more bang for my buck!

He’s as worried as Mark Zuckerberg (still following him on G+), but he’s very private! haha…… Remember when Balmer was saying “$500….. $$$500? (in reference to iPhones?). What took them so long to respond? These CEO’s see the writing on the wall and foolishly give away that fact with boisterous bravado & comments like that. Showing that they are very aware of this new competitor that gained 10 MILLION members in just days. Mark knows his freeloading college days are over, but wisely has kept his mouth shut!

The G+ Interface…. just plain rocks compared to Facebooks hodgepodge of McD’s pieces n parts along w/ it’s moody ever changing privacy issues, that seem to change with the weather. First forced sharing (sneaky settings changed w/o U knowing it) then controversial masking of settings control to make it more difficult to change. On top of Not Ever Being Free to Leave….. Everzzzz! So… Privacy on both Twitter and Facebook ends up being marginal at best. In G+ it’s as easy as making a mud pie…… even a 3 yr old genius brain surgeon could have privacy and set it themselves!

With Google+ Picassa + Gmail + Instant Search….. that actually works, Google is showing the World what innovation & Social Networking is really all about! …..when they take that package with superior privacy controls into the business sector with Google Docs, is when this LinkedIn CEO will surely be peeing his pants…. just like the rest of Google’s competition!

I think Google+ could easily step into the business platform that Facebook has struggled to present. I think businesses who are also active on their profile page are fed up with all the time and energy they put into their fan page only to find that a miniscule amount of content actually makes it into the news feed of their fans. Studies show that once a person becomes a fan of a page they rarely return to it and so the only content that makes it to their stream is what Facebook decides is important for them to see. Sort of arrogant of Facebook don’t you think?

While his assessment of what Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn /SHOULD/ be is spot on, he seems to think much more of his own service than he should.

Yes, I have accounts on all three (and Google+.) Nearly 100% of the non-resume-editing “activity” I see on LinkedIn is just re-posts from Facebook or Twitter. You get profile updates, you get notifications of people adding other people, and you get Facebook or Twitter re-posts.
(In fact, going back a week in my LinkedIn ‘feed’, with over 200 connections, the only updates I see that aren’t the above are my cousin’s fiance (a technical recruiter) posting job ads – immediately *AFTER* the re-post of the same ad on Twitter.)

Comments from Linkedin CEO Jeff Weiner is that there is place for only three social networks and his three networks are Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter.

If you look at email space, Hotmail and Yahoo were established players when Gmail was launched. There was no need for new email services but Gmail proved to be successful because it was better ( at least for some) than existing email services.

If you want people to take your point seriously, I would suggest rereading before you post so you can catch mistakes that a spell checker would miss.

However, I do agree that Mr. Weiner is taking it *too* seriously. The idea of ‘Twitter, for “microcasting” short snippets of information; Facebook, for communicating with family and friends; and LinkedIn for “your professional life.” ’ is downright comical, and shows some serious delusions of grandeur on his part.

My guess is with some more development of G+ from googles side they can wipe linkedin from the face of the earth, in a year or two.
The same goes for twitter.
For example lunarstorm was a socialnetworksite in Sweden that had every 7th swede as a member in 2007-2008, FB killed it in 2-3 years, now its gone.

when facebook becomes the next myspace _______ will happen. the CEO of Linkedln is probably taking his site a little to seriously. Linkedln is a passing craze promoted by college professors and my dad (witch is also a teacher) for networking purposes. I cant see anyone spending time on that web site for long periods of time unless you are trying to impress some other master’s degree wearing retard. As a social networking site witch is catering to professional individual Linkedin is sitting in a space were it does not belong; and is living there on borrowed time. The real occupant of the space may have not even been visualized as yet. Linkedin is just a facebook copycat. That was probably taught up by the friend of some poor trust fun baby thinking that he can make money by making a facebook service catering to professionals, students and (homeless people).

I post public messages which might as well be twitter, I post private messages which is FaceBook. Well, that just doesn’t make any sense at all, of course they can and will coexist, as it is now and will be more so in the future Facebook will become the “MySpace” of Social Networking, meaning it will become as there are very clear signs of this already; the Hotspot for the younger crowd. And to be honest I’ve been a member of LinkedIn since day one and it has never been a place where I want to spend more than a few minutes on. And that is even just once in a blue moon.

With Google+ You have, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare and Skype all in one single package, and the sooner it becomes available to the Masses and they get a go around with the Circles and notice that Social Privacy is possible, it will continue to grow on people. And don’t even get started with Hangouts, seriously a group of at 10 people Hanging and chatting, watching YouTube together and talking about virtually Face 2 Face.

Yeah, they will coexist without a doubt…

They can co exist. Considering most people are using bots anyway to post on FB and Twitter and his LInkedIn, there is plenty of time. People don’t need to be on each site all day. As much as I respect LinkedIn, they do have a spam problem in their groups, which is why I don’t go in them often. I only view lists on Twitter due to Twitter’s problem with Spam. FB is fine since I chopped out all the strangers. G+ allows me control over what I read, and when I want to read it. See, there is room

G+ seeks to offer one platform on which you can use for social and professional networking, microblogging and brand marketing.

There is a massive amount of focus & PR around on the social side – talking on Facebook but we see that there is a bigger plan. Take Circles – it is could essentially do what LinkedIn does plus a great deal more.

With the regards not having any free time – people move free time around according to what they want to do. People didn’t think they had free time before the social networks, the ipad etc.

Think it was brave of the LinkedIn CEO be be outspoken and controversial but think the arguement is floored.

People will get bored with Facebook, and Linkedin is what it is. All Google needs to detroy these other networks is respect people. If they keep the interface free of adds and give people a space online to run their online lives as they see fit without selling their information and trying to force feed them advertising they will win. The snap feature I read about seems like it will do that. Advertising should be tied to content not pushed at people in search that is the problem with how the net works. People need a place where they can organize their online lives, socializing, consuming media, and purchasing. Facebook is a social network that doesn’t care about people and that doesn’t even realize the potential of what they have, they have to sell you to make money. Maybe Google will find a way for + to allow people to make money for them. Linkedin is just a total mess, it looks like a child made it.
