The FCC didn't license spectrum to LightSquared, LightSquared got it when they purchased the assets of bankrupt SkyTerra. This spectrum was reserved for satellite use and was not intended for a widespread terrestrial use and under Federal regulations any ground transmitter used by LightSquared could not interfere with any other users in the spectrum.

The LightSquared terrestrial network would work in proper licensed terrestrial spectrum, but it doesn't work in satellite spectrum. The FCC gave an overly generous conditional waiver to LightSquared that would allow it to build such a network if it could prove it wouldn't interfere, it failed miserably in two comprehensive tests.

LightSquared is right and have legal ground against the FCC. Their devices work properly. The GPS maker are wrong.. they do not respect their allowed spectrum. That said, it's too late... GPS is everywhere... but the FCC sold an unusable spectrum to
LightSquared knowing GPS would overlaps...

I do believe it was squashed do to mainly interferring with military and federal agencies spectrum. If it was just with personal GPS interference Lightsquared would have won with GPS devices signal far off the spectrum that Lightsquared had applied for

This WAS numbered. Maybe not decades ago, but they have/had a flawed technical model. Plus an arrogant approach. They tried to convince the FCC to rule that personal/portable/vehicular GPS devices had no right to protection from interference. Naturally, the FCC declined. The rest of us laughed. Shareholders are best advised to get OUT. Sinking Ship Alert !

Once again, too much marketing pockets full of wanna, not enough engineering minds full of knowa.

Spectrum? What is this spectrum nonsense? We've got shareholders to bamboozle.

We should have just numbered this one decades ago. "#3'
