Ummm....not exactly true. Lightsquared is like the new neighbor who enjoys playing their stereo within the limits of the law, and at a reasonable level. The neighbors complain because they did not insulate their house at all. For those of you who still don't get it, GPS device makers figured they would save a few pennies per device, and not install filters on the equipment to limit the interference. Also, it is the GPS frequencies that infringe on Lightsquared's spectrum, not the other way around. Had the GPS makers not been so cheap, many thousands of people would be looking forward to good paying jobs deploying this new network.

Lightsquared never figured out that physics allows some things to happen but not others. Kind of like
betting you can make big money by making water run uphill on its own, a fine plan, except that this cant happen - at least in this universe.

Instead, LS thought that business regulations were the only barrier to the development of a broadband wifi network that would make so much money LS would have trouble counting it.LS forgot who owns the spectrum - the USA - and why it retains control - DOD/ National security.

Way to ignore science, LS!

LightSquared is the new neighbor who buys a house and then proceeds to put up a thousand speakers on their property line so they can blastt music at full volume. When the neighbors complain, they respond by blaming the neighbors for not building soundproof houses.

Regardless of whether or not Lightsquared has a valid argument, at this point, GPS is simply too big to change (quickly). We literally cannot afford to have failures in the GPS system. Planes, ATMs, cars, etc all depend on it. As it is, people who intentionally jam GPS cause enough trouble as is. The last thing we need is more deadzones.

It would be nice if manufacturers of GPS chips actually stuck with their bandwidth from now on though. (Assuming Lightsquared has a point).
