dtv_3d_directv_whiteDirecTV announced today that they will be merging with Liberty Entertainment, a spinoff from Liberty Media, soon and will place the TV provider in direct connection with actual TV channels.

Specifically, DirecTV will become associated with three sports channels and the Game Show Network. Not much will change at DirecTV itself, with all executives keeping their jobs, however John Malone, the founder of Liberty Media will remain in charge.

The entire merger is expected to be finished by year’s end. This venture follows the grab up of Sirius XM by Liberty Media. At the moment, it is not foreseeable how Liberty Entertainment’s stake in DirecTV will affect their stake in Sirius.
