LG tablet on hold for "most suitable" Android version

LG's Android plans were ambitious this year – 10 smartphones and a tablet by the end of 2010, with the latter tipped as "better than the iPad" – and it seems the main thing holding them back is Google's open-source OS itself.  According to Reuters, an LG official has confirmed that Android 2.2 Froyo simply isn't suitable for their slate, and that they are in talks with Google regarding using future versions instead.

"We plan to introduce a tablet that runs on the most reliable Android version ... We are in talks with Google to decide on the most suitable version for our tablet and that is not Froyo 2.2" LG executive

That's likely a reference to Android 3.0 Gingerbread, which is expected to be significantly more suited to large-screen devices.  However, its release isn't predicted until near the end of the year, which is likely to scupper LG's original late-Q4 release timescale for their tablet.

Actual specifications for the LG Optimus tablet are unknown, but the company has previously said they will be putting extra focus on content creation rather than solely its consumption.
