There’s no doubt it will happen. The question is how quickly. You have Samsung, LG, Japan Display, and some others making OLED panels so that should be healthy enough competition to bring the prices down to the masses within a few years. I can’t wait for a 1080p OLED monitor!

Hopefully all this will lead to a price war between the two – and others as the technology spreads.

OLED used to be expensive to produce but with newer technology, the panels should actually be much cheaper to make.

Because they perform so much better, I am sure that manufacturers hope to sell them at a premium price to profit off “early-adopters” and get back some of the money lost in the intensely competitive LCD wars. But hopefully the market will force prices way, way down to where they sell for significantly less than current LCD/LED panels.

Yup, LG is currently being accused of recruiting employees of SMD in order to steal Samsung’s OLED technology. I never really liked LG, and now everyone can see why they’ve never been able to defeat Samsung at anything. Instead of doing their own R&D to make something better, they’re just looking for shortcuts to get something similar on the market.
