You’re entitled to your opinion but I disagree. Since as already stated LG is not the only one not doing updates. And just because the Motorola Atrix is also a Tegra 2 doesn’t really mean anything. The Atrix was marketed as a much more premium product than the LG Optimus 2x, with things like the laptop dock, etc. and had different optimizations.

Never mind not all carriers carrying the Atrix bothered to push the update and for some it caused the battery run time to get worse and for Citrix to crash!

Really, stop trying to see things so black and white. There isn’t a huge difference between Froyo and Gingerbread, and a lot more goes to porting a OS to each phone model than just getting the OS to work with it.

While unlocked phones don’t always get support either unless they’re high end products.

So yes, the phone industry sucks but it’s mainly the carriers fault. Even Samsung doesn’t update all their phone models.

It’s pretty much the iPhone that consistently gets updates but that’s only because Apple made the deal up front with the Carriers that the iphones will get updates, and they don’t have to deal with hardware fragmentation like the Android market does. While the other companies often have to cater to the Carriers whims and often have more than one phone product to worry about.

Btw, this is still all an assumption that the LG Optimus 2x won’t be getting a update because there was another LG employee who commented and said they’re still testing compatibility with ICS and no decision has been made yet which phone will be supported for the update. So first LG commenter was either misinformed or it may only be places like India that may not be getting the updates.

nope its not over reacting. The very reason why LG chose Tegra 2 is because it is the very first dual core chip available, so they can rush this handset out of the door quicker than anyone else. This is reckless as Samsung has its own CPU design and still manage to pull timely updates.

I dont live in US and I do not giving a damn about carriers models, the unlocked international version Optimus 2X is still on Froyo. Motorola’s Actrix with the same Tegra 2 CPU saw gingerbread in Aug.

LG is a joke.

A bit of an over reaction, LG won’t be the only company not updating all their phones and the Tegra 2 has seen a lot of problems in both the phone and tablet market. Remember the chip came out in 2010 but it didn’t really take off till 2011. So despite models like this LG phone coming out more recently, it’s really a 2010 product and is not even one of their top sellers.

Also as pointed out before it’s the Carrier’s fault for most of these kinds of issues. So you shouldn’t just be blaming the manufacturer.

Like stated in other comments, only the G2x version for US T-Mobile has gotten the Gingerbread update. The person who responded to the Indian Facebook page question only specified the International “Optimus 2x” version, which is still on Froyo.

T-Mobile did specifically ask LG for the update, so this is largely a difference in Carriers. Since a combination of factors of type of network and T-Mobile’s custom apps that they have pre-installed made the G2x pretty unstable when it was first released and they even stopped selling it until they got the update.

Unfortunately, manufacturers are often limited to whatever deals they have with the Carriers in how they set up the phones. But that’s why 3rd party custom ROM mods are so popular :P

The biggest problem with this model though is it’s quite the battery power hog and needs to be recharged often unless you hardly use it, which probably lessens the reasons to support it for the International market.

Apple doesn’t have to worry about hardware or software fragmentation but they’re not without their own issues and limitations.

Besides, everyone has their own preferences and without competition there wouldn’t be much incentive for them to improve these products.

It’s a little more complicated, due to hardware fragmentation companies often have to put in time and money to get a new Android released optimized for their device. This is further complicated by whatever deals they have going with the contracted carrier they are selling the phone to, as many want the phones locked and a few may also have certain apps they want to include but not to be made available to other carriers carrying the same basic phone.

Then add the pressure for pushing the newer phone over the old and there’s little wonder at the lack of support for older devices. So it’s not usually easy for these manufacturers to always provide the best support and not just a lack of caring for the customers.

In most cases you can blame the carriers more than the manufacturers anyway.

Though either the manufacturer or the 3rd party modding community may come up with alternative solutions, but will usually require unlocking the phone.

They only mentioned it for the 2x, which also has yet to get the Gingerbread update but the G2x has gotten the update and may still get the ICS update.

Issue could be deal with carriers and not just LG, while LG itself has provided a utility for manually updating the phone for Gingerbread and that may hold true for the ICS update and it may just not be a official update.

Seems to me this is setting the table for the US version of the LG Eye. The phone carries better specs than the Galaxy Nexus and boasts a higher ppi than the Iphone 4s despite being a 4.5 inch screen. The end of the 2 year cycle for a phone like this can often mean death but I think they will get ICS eventually. I’m just willing to bet it won’t happen until after the Eye is released in the US

sorry and dont mean to be insulting but you have no idea what your talking about.
while there may be hardware constraints, memory etc. you will see icecream sandwhich on many devices from CM or others that the manufactures wont release. as has been the case with gingerbread. its about the lack of giving a shit about previous customers and intentionally not updating so people buy new phones with the latest on it. no different than any other business hey new customer here is a great deal hey current customers give us our friggin money.
on this phone g2x/o2x the hardware is there and able to support ics. if its not updated by the manufacturer its simply lack of doing it not the inability to do it.

that may be what you say but the truth is that LG has consistently cut their customers off from promised updates, lied and fought with customers when they had issues, and trailed behind Samsung who has problems of their own.

have you guys taken any time to look at XDA and really talk to the people who buy your products? they are tired of not hearing anything from LG when they have questions or a problem.

The proof is right in front of everyone, look at the Optimus 3D, it is newer than the G2X and still has Froyo with zero word on any Gingerbread.

you wouldn’t have problems with rumors if your company was more honest about updates and issues. Chris was obviously going with whatever seemingly official word he could find. if you don’t say anything and your customers want to hear something from you regarding the products they spend lots of money on, then speak up or don’t say anything and lose your clientele to more reputable and forthcoming sellers. it up to you guys, you have the upper hand here. take some responsibility for once.

“no ICS” ? Not even Gingerbread ! All this while with the current froyo ROMs are having lots of issues at least for some customers. Issues like sudden reboots, performance issues (try to do something while updating your apps) and so on ..

I’m sure LG and other manufacturers would love to bring Android updates to all their phones, but it’s the nature of Android…being fractured….and the updates themselves which prevent manufacturers from updating. If you really like Android, be prepared to get a new phone every nine months or so.

Mr. Hong, I totally agree with Alvin.
It is passed time to have LG making an official announcement about their commitment to their G2x Phone and Customers.
It needs to be fixed and it needs to maintained.
There are several people who made the a 2-year commitment with LG, with the G2x but not even 6 months after its release, LG has not been able to make it a success and maintain their respective commitment.

Well, Ken, I can certainly say that LG needs to make an official statement pretty quickly. As one of the newest players in the Android market, you guys have a lot to prove. I just bought a G2X 2 days ago, and am going to give it a few more days before I decide whether or not it’ll get returned in favor of a Sensation… I like the hardware, you guys did GREAT… but no ICS on a 6 month old device would be an insult, really. Don’t do that to those willing to give your company a chance.

Chris, I’m not sure who’s speaking on behalf of LG but I can tell you that it’s not our official statement. In fact, we still haven’t finished testing all our phones for ICS compatibility so it’s a bit premature to be saying what you supposedly saw on this FB page.

The LG G2X has the nVidia Tegra 2 SoC with the dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU, and a GeForce ULV GPU, right? I’m shocked that they won’t be supporting ICS on this device — it’s the exact same hardware that my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1″ has, and that’ll be getting ICS. Good job, LG — I’ll be sure not to buy any of your devices.

Excellent phone and excellent support.. from online community.. Thanks to Paul from Modaco, Cyanogen Dev Team, MIUI Teams/Forums, and some users from XDA who are making this phone randomly/daily/weekly better and better and better again..
I almost wanted to sell it 2 monthes after buying it, now I don’t even care about new phones and want to keep it as long as possible.
No support from LG ? I knew it from the very first day.. I don’t care about that..
