I had the privilege of being at the CES show in Vegas and I have to disagree 100% whole heartedly that the sammy won the war of picture quality. The contrast of the both tv's was nothing short of stunning but LG edged out the sammy (LG quote a contrast of 100,000,000:1). The blacks were incredibly deep and the colour gamut with 4 color pixel tech is nothing short of astounding. The negatives: As an avid fan of 3d, I was a little disappointed that the LG only utilises passive 3d and there were some minimal signs of crosstalk and the sharpness of the images suffered slightly compared to some plasma active 3d tv's. However this tv is so beautiful it can almost be described as av art and in comparison to the sammy is far superior aesthetically. It was hard to gauge the true performance potential of the sammy as they showed only very limited motion content (showed more still pics than anything) but from what I saw LG wins this year. There was also talk that 2013 models will see larger screen sizes of 65" and 80" models but these are sure to cost the earth (as will the 55" 2012 models no doubt). Oh and fyi, Samsung are looking at last quarter of 2012 for their release.
