Leica X Edition Moncler honors brand with French flag design

Yesterday Leica, Moncler, and Fabien Baron jointly unveiled a limited edition camera called the Leica X Edition Moncler. The camera is identical to the regular Leica X model, but brings with it a special design that Leica brags gives it an "unmistakable appeal". Mostly notable are the blue, white, and red color bands spanning across the camera — the colors of the French flag — that the maker says is in honor of Moncler's French origins. As with any limited edition run, only a small number of the model will be produced.

The camera was designed in conjunction with Moncler. The colored portion is a premium leather trim that stretches around to the back of the device, around which lies a bright silver metal body. The design is otherwise akin to previously released Leica X models.

The limited edition camera is joined by a white padded pouch designed by Moncler, styled after the down jackets that brand enthusiasts will be familiar with. A matching camera strap is also tossed into the mix bearing both Leica's and Moncler's logos.

As mentioned, the camera itself is the same as the regular production model, which features a 16.5-megapixel APS-C format CMOS sensor and a Leica Summilux 23mm f/1.7 ASPH lens. Only 1500 units will be made and sold across the globe in Leica's stores and boutiques and Moncler stores.
