LEGO reveals NEXO Knights: tech-infused castle adventure oddness

This week the folks at LEGO have revealed their newest property: NEXO Knights – fully infused with ancient magic, technologically advanced machinery, and high entertainment value. This release will fill the shelved with a new set of sets of LEGO by the end of the year, with a number of sets for both the good side and the bad, magic and technology – not necessarily mutually exclusive. In short, this is a mix-up of two of LEGO's previous properties: knights and space – sort of. It's complicated.

The first set you're seeing here goes by number 70317 and name The Fortrex. Several new pieces are employed here, as well as new colors. While you'll recognize the semitransparent nature of the orange here from previous space sets, here you'll find a slightly more red semitransparent color, lots of mixing with various tones of blue, and quite a few stickers.

Notice the new enemy minifigures – a new shape entirely – and the healthy helping of mix-ups with bricks normally reserved for Technic.

The other set you'll see here goes by number 70316 and name Jestro's Evil Mobile. Those wheel pieces you'll recognize from General Grievous' Wheel Bike, except orange here rather than transparent white, while quite a few Technic and/or Bionicle pieces are being utilized to create a vehicle that reminds us of Ninjago.

While we do not know the exact release date of these sets, you can expect LEGO go to all-in within the next several months. Robots and magic and bright, shiny circuits galore!
