The future is upon us! In New York City, a few LED streetlights are being tested. And if they’re approved, look to see brand new lampposts that sport LED lights.

The potential for these LED streetlights is high, considering that the LED bulbs could last up to 46,000 hours longer than the current bulbs. This would not only save money. The bulbs would also emit no toxic chemicals when thrown away and use up to 30% less energy.

At the moment, there are only six lampposts with the LED lights installed, but if everything goes according to plan, the old streetlights and lampposts will slowly start to be replaced throughout the city. The lights look to be brighter than standard streetlights and give off a futuristic vibe. It’s good to see a city taking steps toward energy efficiency. Pretty cool, if you ask me.
