I wasn’t aware there is a current standard for this type of technology. But let me point out a few things here sherlock, x,y,z is x,y,z no matter where you go, that is a mathmatical standard. Mice operate on x and y axis, this is the only “standard” they share. They all have their own drivers, some have 50 buttons, some have 2 buttons. Hell on a older Mac you only have one button. The hardware itself can be extremely diffent, it is the driver that communicates what this or that buttons means to the OS. So man up and enjoy some inovation, stop being afraid of change, in this industry we embrace change.

They can’t. Apple may get away with this when it comes to tech that not a lot of ppl are aware of, but kinnect is mainstream. Apple claining they own the patents on something Microsoft has been selling for years will make them look laughable.

Just another example of the fact that if something is presented properly, then people will believe it, no matter how big of a stupidity it is. Wake up guys, so you really think this kind of technology exists at this price? These people will get rich on orders, they won’t deliver of course, because there’s nothing to deliver, and you can chase your money like chasing a ghost.

I do construction work and my hands get dirty. This is why I am leery about getting a touch screen, I am pretty sure it would get really nasty looking pretty quick. I have a Garmin but I don’t use it enough to mess it up. This invention might be just the thing for me, because I don’t like smudges on my screens. And on a PC you wouldn’t have to reach all the way across to do your thing. That’s another reason I’m not too crazy about the idea of a touch screen to do everything on a PC desktop or laptop. This will be great if Apple doesn’t buy it, because I’m not going to convert to Apple just to use this tech. Because they would definitely lock it down tight.

Apple may very well buy this unless Microsoft beats them to it. But if Apple does buy it they will lock it down so tight it’s not even funny. And yes they will indeed say they invented finger motion. And the fan boys will swear it’s true and look what Apple invented. And if they can get away with it they would also send out updates to all the PC versions to cripple them. At the very least they would restrict who can develop apps for it

I’m all for competition, but is this heading towards competing standards? Having a bunch of different companies making mice is one thing, since they all work the same way and developers don’t care what mouse the user is using. But when this and the Kinect are totally different in terms of standards and whatnot, I’m not sure I like it.

This is perfect for motion-enhanced desktop operation. I for one am happy that this isn’t targeted at lame flailing-type console games. Kinect hacks are so much more interesting that the shallow games the platform supports and this is right up the community’s alley.
