Super antioxidants are present, if anything. The water is super oxygenated and the pressure is tremendous. This would contribute to hyper-accelerated evolutionary processes in any bio-system: plant, or other. The sediment is a veritable Pandora’s box of distillates of organics that would have settled into the lake during the warm, tropical, phase of the planet at that time. With no where to go, the sediment has remained untouched and untainted…waiting for millions of years for humans to evolve and develop tools of scientific examination and analysis. If there’s any potent agent in nature to reverse, or stop, the decay of human cell regeneration, it may be found in this sinkhole from the Garden of Eden…OR something may wait to gobble us all up in one big BITE. If it has so much interesting stuff in it, how is it so clean? In my opinion, having a goldfish in a cup of water, makes the water rather impure. Same goes for gigantic subglacial reservoirs and microscopic archaea.

Also, the scientists who did this on one of the Antarctic-an shelves, or one of the poles [can't remember] worried about introducing THEIR bacteria to the system, or the bacteria that lived there for 20 million years getting to us. Well, guess we will find out!

I’m no scientist but “twice as clean as double distilled water” sounds a lot like ‘sterile’. If its sterile then there is no life (the meaning of sterile). If there is life there then it poops. If it poops then its not all that clean. (not that I wouldnt like a taste….dat, dat some high qwawity h2o!”)

I am guessing it is completely dark down there and at its warmest, just above freezing. If that is the case then my bet is its sterile being free from light and significant heat all those years. No light means no photosynthesis. No photosynthesis means no plant life. No plant life means no animal life that feeds off it.

If there is a light source and thus some form of life, its microbial and of no significant difference than what we can find in other cold, clean waters in that region.

The water would not be clean. It is, as the illustration points out, melt water from the ice above. The ice is composed of compacted snow. Snow is hardly pure. In fact snow, just like rain, forms in the presence of dirt.

Anybody remember John Carpenter’s “The Thing”…. what if what they dig up we don’t want….. 50 million year old virus strain. Some kinda critter that can destroy ecosystems .
