LACU brings live video chat interpreters to your iPhone

The constant connectivity of modern life is rife with promises, not the least of which is decreased barriers between people, regardless of their location or language. Many translation apps exist that aid in foreign-language exchanges, but are of limited usefulness. That's where LACU, a new video chat app, steps in.

LACU works by connecting someone in need of translation to a live translator for the needed languages, removing the problems that can result from digital audio analysis interpreters. The idea is that if you find yourself in a situation where language is getting in the way, your iPhone can be used to get instant real-time translation.

There are two options for using LACU. For "light conversation," a free option is available, while those who are in need of a translator for a more strenuous talk will have a paid option, of which the first fifteen seconds are free. The system uses a prepaid point system for payments, requiring a minimum amount of $1.98 USD.

For those times an interpreter you've favorited isn't available, there's also a notify system that allows you to notify those interpreters of your need. The app is available for free from the App Store, and is supported on devices running iOS 6.1 or higher. Also compatible with the iPad and iPod Touch.
