My son commented that most iPhone and iPad apps simply duplicated what was available via a browser while compensating for the tiny screen and exploiting the touch interface. Viewed this way, having a HUGE number of apps suggests that the device's web browser is inferior at delivering the normal web experience! When control over the app catalog is used to extract even more money from the customer, one begins to see the end coming to Apple dominance.

Both Google's and HP's new mobile OSes (ChromOS and webOS) are designed to exploit HTML5 support for apps and touch independent of platform. The Web experience will be the same on phone, pad, tablet and PC, implemented on the website, not the viewing device itself.

Amazingly, from this perspective, Apple is seen as Old School, obsolete and wedded to the past!

Wow!
