I agree completely. Cloud computering is good only as long you can make sure your information is accessible.
Brendan, you are wrong. Demand is most definitely directly correlated production. Demand won't increase just because production is increasing, but if the cost of production is the reason for the increase in production, demand will increase. If the 1 TB USB drive becomes cheaper to make, the cost will be lower. Lower cost equals more demand. Are you trying to tell me that if the USB drive costs $100 instead of $3000, the demand won't go up?

My 1TB Seagate Go-Flex (3x5x1 or so) is fantastic in that regard, LOVE it. I don't pick up portable drives for above $100 - exception being my IronKey.
All my other thumbdrives and SD cards all waited until they were 50-75, and I buy so many $5 8-16GB and $10-$15 32GB SanDisk drives that I don't have any need for a singular "high capacity" device just yet.

There are (statistically unknown to me) people like me who will never switch to cloud storage. Local storage is always my preferred choice, call it the effect of growing up in an area with dubious-quality internet at best, but I will *never* make the switch until I have 3+ redundant forms of internet on my person at any time anywhere. Almost there with cable and cellular, however that's only when I am home. If I lose signal (frequently) or my cell phone battery dies, my other devices no longer have internet. Buying other devices with cellular internet still does me no good - paying multiple monthly bills for the same lost signal...

While I agree with your first statement, your second statement isn't sound. While production is completely dependent on demand, demand is largely independent from production. Just because something becomes easier to make does not mean people will want it more. You would certainly see a shift in supply, but the shift in demand is open to many variables. This is especially true in the tech world. Consider the effect cloud computing could have on personal data storage over the next 5 - 10 years.
