I pay $99 and have an actual Android device to test on. Those $99 yearly
are not for dev tools, XCode now costs $5. But hey, don’t let the facts
get into your argument’s way!
Android SDK does not come with a simulator, it’s an emulator. Learn the
difference…

PS: The simulator is no help at all, when I’m doing low level
optimisations…

No, you pay for a decent SDK/Simulator. I am sorry but I tried the Android Simulator/IDE and its a peace of crap. I am happy to pay $99 and be able to do proper work.

I just updated the Kindle app on my iPod Touch and I see the button is removed as the release notes indicated. I neither love nor hate Apple but their dumb a$$ terms are becoming more draconian all the time. I would not be too upset if they eventually make a big screw up and shoot themselves in the foot. Over time one people will begin to chafe at the chains around their neck and demand change. Perhaps more companies will emulate Google and simply pull their apps and let Apple go along merrily without their presence.

Hahahha, I can’t believe the Apple fandom have stepped in to defend this action. “Have you seen the microsoft phone” Have you? It’s not bad at all. I’ve used the Apple phone and it’s a child’s toy. Preferences aside, Microsoft never did anything like this in the 90′s. This is downright perverse, and quite pathetic, honestly. Also, Android might have spyware but there is NO guarante that iPhone apps are safe. The only scanning Apple does is for “quality” and market control.

I got $31.68 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Dell laptop for $95.84 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. And Verizon’s policy is… ??? Let’s see. They re-skin the Android so you can’t even Search via Google. They have their own bug-ridden app store. People have to jump through hoops, USING EXTERNAL BROWSING and SIDE LOADING… but hey, that is supposedly open? Whatever. Apple’s policy is not substantially different. Investigate Microsoft, Verizon, SONY… When did SONY ever allow you to purchase from Apple on their consoles? Have you even tried the Windows phone? It’s a joke. At least with Apple the user knows what they are getting. It’s not hidden away, and they don’t run smear campaigns that exagerate about the competition. They just put out a better product, and these people can’t compete, so they whine.

not a security issue..at all.. let’s be honest.. they are well within their rights to limit the siphoning of their profits on their platform..

tons of apps will direct you to the web for help files, tutorial vids, etc..

Considering that most malware is infected through bad links, I could see why Apple would want to limit the ability to reach out and open web browsers from apps as a way to keep app-links from being spoofed by malicious web sites. It is a ginormous security hole. How they did it and what that means for apps on apple products will resonate way deeper than this. The reality is not to lock down the user/vendors to create security, the reality is to educate users… which is far harder than vetting the links of every app in the app store.

Blah blah blah…when will people realize that Apple is unfriendly to anyone not willing to shell out tons of cash and do exactly as they say? Get an Android phone, people. Open source means myriad variations of the system are available, and with no real scrutiny in the app store, it’s easy to find apps that do what you truly want them to – most are even free!
