Kidizoom Smartwatch: a durable wearable for kids

Camera. Smartphone. Tablet. Smartwatch. If you have it, your kid no doubt wants to use it, and that presents a problem, as kids aren't always gentle when handling delicate devices. That's where kid-centric alternatives come in, such as the various tablets we've seen designed just for kids. If your child is pining for something a bit smaller and more wearable, however, there's another option: the Kidizoom Smartwatch from VTech, which includes a bunch of features and an integrated camera.

The smartwatch is targeted at young children (the company says 4 through 7-years-old), and offers things like a voice recorder with silly sound effects that can be applied, four learning-based games, both digital and analog watch faces (more than 50 options), a timer, and the maker's Learning Lodge.

As far as design itself, the small display is a touchscreen offering, and the device is "splash proof", meaning it can handle small amounts of water like sweat and splashes, but not being submerged. The battery is rechargeable, the construction is promised to be durable, and there's a 640 x 480-resolution camera that can record video and take photos.

The Kidizoom Smartwatch is priced at $59.99 USD, and is available now in a blue/purple color, pink, green, and white. Unfortunately, the device is currently out of stock, and there's no word on when it is expected to be available again, though it'll likely crop up in time for the holiday shopping season.
