Exactly how is the product compromised by using an additional cable, for which the product provides the necessary USB port (two, actually) and a storage area underneath the removable top specifically to store said cable?

I smell BS. He claims a single additional cable compromises the whole product, yet the product itself provides the means to use and store additional cables. Furthermore, the fact that he’s handling refunds through his own, newly established crowd-source funding service really smells bad. Canceling a fully funded and high-profile product is sure to gain media attention, even more so when Apple is specifically blamed for the cancellation. That’s a whole lot of free advertising for his new service. That he has the nerve to then ask Kickstarter for a refund of their fees is pretty audacious.

I’m as critical of Apple as the next guy, but this whole story has so many contradictions it looks really suspect.

that’s exactly what I had in mind.
I remember apple banning wireless (wifi) syncing app that was developed by the devs and they took the idea and introduced their version of it, with an icon that looked every so similar to the one that was shut down!

Why not make it for android? They all use micro USB, should not be hard, android is also much more customisable and friendly to developers and even the consumer, you are bound to have more sales with android devices as well seeing as android is now dominating the market. And yeah guess what, I posted to from my ipad. Apple are a bunch of greedy money hungry ass’s, I own a Samsung galaxy s 3 and the amount of stuff I can do on it willingly is so much more than the ipad.

What the hell is this thing anything? All we learn about it from this article is the name, the shape, and the fact that it needs the Apple lightning connector for some reason or another. Terrible journalism. If you just posted an article saying that some company had to refund the kickstarter because their doodad can’t be made, it would be only slightly less informative.

I’m with Jonathan, there must be something else going on here. Why would you kill a whole project over one cable? Why not design with USB so you can use all sorts of cables from various devices? My Sony camera uses a proprietary cable and my iPhone has Lightning, so instance. Something’s fishy in Denmark.

Why not just let the consumer use their own lightning cable, let them wind it into the mechanism that retracts the wires. Or just ignore lightning and make iPhone 5 and iPad 4 users use the bottom USB ports. It seems a little stupid to give up over one cable. But the real annoying people here are Apple and their control freakiness
