I have to admit that I don’t really go all-out to protect my credit card from would-be thieves. I keep it in my wallet which stays in my pocket. If it gets stolen, I’m not actually liable for the false charges, so I’m not going to lose sleep over it. For those that are paranoid, you might check out this new card.

Keypad Credit Card

The Keypad Credit Card is exactly as it sounds, it’s a credit card with an embedded keypad. You enter your secret passcode which then gives you a temporary one-time use passcode to authorize a transaction.

I don’t know about you, but I think this is a bit redundant. If someone knows your PIN on your card, you’re screwed anyway, I don’t see how this card is going to protect against that. It’s like trying to believe you’re really going to keep out a hacker that’s sitting at your PC (hint: it’s not gonna happen).

Actually I can see a use for this. There have been some problems lately with people hacking gas station pumps to record debit/credit card numbers, as well as the pin or zip code that they request. Using something like this you could use the card and the one time pin which would then be useless when they downloaded the number/pin later on.
