I used to like storylines and it would be a sin to skip story but now things changed and I just skip story and jump right into gameplay. I just wanna blast away at my enemies and in the mean time there are too many real life stories outside of videogame for me to indulge in.

Some games need storylines to maintain interest, like the grand theft auto series and mafia 2 that's where the heart and soul of the game is.
What a non-story that whole article was! Seriously, did the author need to meet his quota or something?!

Also, to describe Heavy Rain's graphics as "average for the time" is laughable. The game was, and still is, one of the best looking console games available.

In most of the better games, you didn't have to play as a set race or gender. Fallout let you choose, and one of the default characters (of three) was female. Also had a great storyline and killer ending. Most of the Black Isle and Bioware games gave you a lot of flexibility in deciding your characters background and gender.

Story telling is a art.10 years ago Max Payne came with its Noir themed Graphic Novel story telling with action/fighting done by the player. It was story telling like I had never seen before in a game.

On other hand was Quake 3 with a 2 line "story" hidden in html help. And I loved that game too.(I still play it even Offline)

It is Not as if good storyline defines a good game. It simply is a part of the package in some games and in others it is not.

Typically, I tend to appreciate video games with storylines more. Tales of Symphonia for example, riveting tale. Man, I couldn't stop.

But in the end, it's about taste and mindset. A good gamer, in my opinion, has different tastes and can sit through cutscenes. These new "casual" gamers today don't do that. They just want to play. That's it. That's not enough for me.

Story line's draw the player into the game but there's one thing Ive hated about video game for 2 decades now; why must I ALWAYS play as white male? in this day and age, every game should come with a skinnable main character. If its not a sports game, there's ZERO chance game characters resemble me., nothing wrong with being white--but there's nothing wrong with being some other color.

and spare me the crap about the demographics of your average gamer because gamers come in all ages, races and at least 2 genders.

The author's viewpoint is somewhat flawed. Story is important...in certain genres. An RPG like Mass Effect better have a good story (which is why so many are upset about the ending). Sports and fighting games, not so important. FPS games can go either way I suppose. Games like Modern Warfare 3 and its ilk, which is more about the multiplayer don't really care about getting a good story. A game like Bioshock however, does.
