Give me strenght! How do you spell CONTROL? It’s not bad enough that they want to control what apps are used on their phones, they also wanted to control on which networks their phones were used, something akin to George Orwell’s 1984 perhaps?

Jobs was brilliant in so many ways, one of which was building quality products and services (he couln’t have become rich or famous without his personality and intuitive qualities). I believe this world is a better place because of Jobs and if his vision is carried on, we will see better products that benefit the consumer.

Yeah, great “blow for the consumers”. If he succeeded he would have monopoly because the network would be only for iPhones and so jobs would have you completely by the balls.

The man was a narcissist, control freak and a megalomaniac, however his greed always stopped him from dominating an industry. He was good at selling but his greed and need for total control always got the best of him. First in PC industry and now in the cell phone business. Apple is done.

And what makes you think Apple would have undercut the carriers? Especially with the expensive nationwide implementation that this project would have cost? The only motive here was to keep more money in Apple’s pockets- it had nothing to do with benefitting the consumer.

Interesting but not surprising…Jobs was a true visionary…seems what he created was just the tip of the ice berg of all the things he truly wanted or planned to create…he has forgotten more than most of us will ever know…

The service would have been terrible at best. Apple should have bought some spectrum and became it’s own carrier. They’ve sold enough iPhones to date where this actually sounds like a good idea, but before iphones, I’m sure they thought it was too big of a gamble.

If Steve Jobs could have set up a Wifi alternative, that would have been the single greatest blow for consumer rights ever. The carriers would be forced to actually offer decent pricing instead of the eye gouging prices and plans they currently offer.
