boo hoo. it’s a movie. it’s supposed to be entertaining, not serious and boring as all the negative comments people are dishing out..so, go rent the movie once it’s out on DVD,get some popcorn, a diet coke and a big fat couch to sit on and enjoy the movie…:)

In a drama covering a whole life you have to compress events and tell the bigger story by dramatising key moments. We also see this clip in isolation, not in the context of what happens next. Jobs could be very overtly passionate about ideas, because he saw the potential and was excited by it.

Now consider how Wozniak must have felt about his careful painstaking work at that moment. Please see my response to the clip above.

Sometimes in a drama you need to compress events to move the story forward. In such a situation you may need to imply tensions that were not there in the original events. This short clip seems to be about the intensity and reach of Jobs’s vision and perception. It expresses his passionate nature. Even if Wozniak expressed things much more positively on that day, this is also about the relationship between them. To grasp the intention here we need to see what happened next.

Trying to convey any life in film is hard enough; with Steve Jobs its MUCH harder. He clearly provoked intense reactions, people either loved or hated Jobs. Watch any clip of his interactions when he disagreed with people. He could be very hard to deal with in opposition, because the word “compromise” was burnt out of his dictionary – and I understand why! That could be the reason for this clip.

Facebook movie (The Social Network), was also not entirely accurate. Movie is a movie, and the writers, directors and all others associated with it can do whatever they want, since they brought the rights. Move on.

Woz is still alive and if they were making a movie about the early days of Apple, why for the love of Pete did they not ask one of the two people that was there in order to make it more accurate? If they had any kind of integrity, everything would have gone through Woz before being finished.

It should be officially titled “JOBS – A fictional re-telling of what we think happened.”

Besides Woz has always been the better man, but we don’t see a movie about him, only about the the other co-founder of Apple, the jerk one. I don’t know why they praise the business man and not the engineer, if not for the engineer, Jobs would have been selling used cars.

If this is the scene they’ve chosen to release for publicity and trailer use, it’s the scene they are claiming best represents the movie. If the best representation of the movie is false, what does that say about the rest of the movie?

I think TV and movies are too comfortable with being false. If you want to make fiction, great, make fiction, there’s nothing wrong with that. If you want to tell a true story, tell a true story.

I agree with what others said – in a movie based on real events it is good to have things mostly right.

And in an article discussing such a movie, it is important to get the arguments mostly right. Wozniak didn’t mainly complain about his view of the OS. He complained about things like:

“The ideas of computers affecting society did not come from Jobs. They inspired me and were widely spoken at the Homebrew Computer Club,”

“personalities are very wrong although mine is closer.”

These two seem quite substantial…

Surely everyone knows by now that revisionist history goes hand in hand with whatever Apple is involved in, so why not use it in a film about its co-founder?

The sad fact is most people will think the film is entirely factual.
I just wish it had more explosions and pretty women in fast cars. And lasers.

Of course it matters. It’s unethical to sanctify a man who has influenced so radically – and sometimes in the wrong directions! – the world of technology. Especially when it comes to a high-exposure medium like the cinema.

Of course it matters. “totally wrong” and “not 100% accurate” are virtual polar opposites. The film masquerades as a biopic, the film is named after Steve Jobs after all.
