iWatch tipped to include optical health-tracking sensors

According to sources that spoke to analyst Sun Chang Xu of the Chinese website Electrical Engineering Times, Apple's anticipated wearable being referred to as the iWatch will contain optical sensors for tracking health and fitness-related information, such as oxygen levels and heart rate.

The sources are said to be from the supply chain. It is said that Apple considered at some point including a glucose monitor, as well, but the often inaccurate results from non-invasive sensors of this variety mean it likely won't be included in the product that ends up on your wrist. Word has previously surfaced indicating oxygen and heart rate measuring would be included with the wearable.

Earlier this month, an Apple job listing had briefly surfaced seeking physiologists for a variety of fitness and health related things, stipulating the candidates needed "Good understanding of physiological monitoring equipment, measurement techniques and interpretations of results," among other things.

Such a job listing lends credibility to the latest sources that have cropped up, as well as past rumors and the expectation Apple's wearable will include health and fitness-related aspects. What functionality the final product will end up offering is yet unknown, but all signs point towards a robust smartwatch.
