i find it strange.. This.
Apple products are very expensive… Too darn expensive..
The last product i owned was an ipad2.. Didn’t do me anything extraordinary than my other tablet.. But yea, i did buy it.. Out oof curiosity..
My conclusion, apple products do not give you the value for money.

It didn’t surprise me just because of one thing:

“iPod”

Apple sold a ton of iPods and they’re simple enough devices that fill a need for music on the go. My roomate has a second-generation iPod nano which she uses to listen to music when she runs.

I’ve 3 in my house… I also have 3 Samsung devices, and Many more lightbulbs from a single manufacturer… this only means it has sold well in the past. I don’t use the Apple products-my kids do…

Nope, they just tend to that terrible. Tried a MacBook and iPod nano before. Hated both, so went to a Lenovo and Zune Flash (eventually upgraded to a Zune HD) that I’m still using today.

You are assuming all sales are new customers. I would say 50% of iPhone sales are to returning customers. Most iPhone’ers don’t give up their old stuff as they like to keep it for what ever reason (my 4 year old uses my old 3g as an iPod). You are also assuming all device are still in use. I think your math should be adjusted accordingly.

Also, why is this a surprise to people? Lets look back shall we. Sony Walkman, I would say the same thing. Nike shoes, again ditto. Phillips, look at your light bulb most likely. Motorola, who didn’t have a RAZR and Cable and Sat set-top boxes. Barbie, need I even start with that toy. It looks more significant when you add dollar signs to it as the product they sell are more money. But customer count is a different story and one that I think is rather humdrum. Their luster will wear off eventually. Will it be soon though, not any chance.

Author…with your anti-Apple bias showing, you question the survey. Either write news or give your opinion. But make it clear to your readers what you are doing. When you mix the two, it doesn’t work well.

If it includes iPods, then it’s probably believable.
If it’s just Macs and iPhones/iPads, I say not quite.

If you include iPods, I can believe this is true. Anybody with kids of a certain ago has bought an iPod, there was really no getting around it.

I think the better question would have been ”Do you use an Apple device at least once a week?”

I don’t know – if you are going to do a study like this why would you not ask a few other questions…like ‘do you NOT own any Apple products?’, ‘do you own an Android or Blackberry phone?’, ‘Do you own a PC?’ and perhaps ‘Do you work using Apple products?’.

There are millions of iPods sitting in corners doing nothing…

I’m not a fan of Apple, nor do we have any iPhones, iPads, or Mac computers. However there is a 4 year old iPod Nano. So perhaps yes? But the question is so broad (any Apple products whatsoever) that I don’t think it really says that much about the state of things.

It’s worth noting that the composition of the sample is far more important than the size of the sample. If those 836 people were representative of the whole, then a sample size of 836 is more than enough.

Sounds like the author needs to take a class or 2 in statistics. You admit that it has statistical significance and then in the exact same sentence you dismiss it with essentially no reasoning.

There are lies, damned lies, benchmarks and statistics, pick your poison. I am one of your statistical anomalies because I don’t own nor intent to own anything created by Apple. So far, this has been because they sell functionality for a higher price than I am willing to accept so I buy from their competitors. From personal observation, people who buy from Apple tend to continue to buy from them so I believe that Apple consumers own more than 1.6 devices per household while the rest of us will own 0-1 Apple devices.

all these “i” stats are according to wiki,
183 million plus iphones have sold worldwide from 2007 onwards….
55 million ipad and 2…the new ipad….10-15 million more conservatively?
ipods? 300 million as of 10/2011

that adds up to 550 million iproducts across the world….. and of
that if a person has one of the three the chances of them having another
is very high….. their survey says so….. so divide that by 1.6
iproducts per household

343 million households worldwide own iproducts

average size of us household = 2.59
us population =308 million
no. of us households = 119 million
50% of us household = 59.5 million

according to this ratio of US sales/ rest of the world sales 59.5 : 283.5 so approx 1:5

so….. after an initial laugh i think this survey has some merit and yeah its plausible!

I wouldn’t be surprised…I’ve used Windows since there was Windows, but I’m typing this on my new Macbook Air 11. First Apple product, and very likely will not be the last, although its also likely I will not leave Windows completely.
