Now that the iPod touch and the iPod nano have been announced and released, eager tech hounds wanting to know all they can about the devices have cracked them open, literally! And while we can now get a good look at the innerds of the new PMPs, we also learned the touch is sporting a hidden piece of hardware.

The iPod touch has a Broadcom BCM4325 Bluetooth chip, it seems. And though Apple has not mentioned this at all, you can’t deny the physical evidence. While initial speculation caused some confusion about why this chip would be present, especially after Apple said the Nike+ used a “proprietary low-power 2.4 GHz radio protocol” to send wireless signals that was not Bluetooth, it now seems Nike+ is using the Bluetooth chip, after all.

Other than the Bluetooth thing, both the touch and the nano appear to be pretty standard inside. But it still amazes me how they can fit so much in such small a space!
