There’s an investigation going on right now as to why an iPod began shooting out sparks while charging. I’d characterize that as a pretty good question all things considered I already have to worry about my laptop and cell phone blowing up, I though my iPod was safe.

The problem was apparently found in the Li-Ion battery in the iPod Nano model MA099J/A. The ministry of trade and economy are classifying it as a fire and have ordered Apple to find the root cause.

They know the iPod was made in China, but so far no word on who made the battery. The biggest issue is that there are now about 425,000 iPods of the same model floating around in Japan, so, hopefully they get this all figured out before it causes more than just sparks.
