It would be interesting to know how many of the respondents had 4g ready phones + coverage + plan. I would guess no more than 15%. Of those, likely 2-3% didn't know it was an option to turn it on or off.

You'll just have to accept that with android saturation what it is today, the rank and file users are no longer IT nerds who suffer for the sake of hating apple (2009/10.) Android users are now going to be as tech savvy as an.average laptop buyer at best buy.

For that to make sense the following needs to happen:

1 - 85% must have a a 4G capable Android smartphone.
2 - 85% must live in an area where 4G LTE coverage is available.
3 - 85% will not experience data caps by the ISPs.

As an iPhone user, at least I dont make comments that make me look stupid as f**k. Welcome to reality, most android users got their phones because it was cheap/free not because it was better.

This is the real truth, mostly.

Android phones have supplanted feature phones, the phones you get for free. This is the reason for these numbers.

These are the phones your aunt Sally gets now. Remember how you had to setup aunt Sally's WiFi for her new laptop? Remember how many times you had to remind her the password is written on a sticker on the bottom of her router? (After explaining again which one was indeed the router.)

Aunt Sally is good-to-go with the working data she has.

True story, my aunt (Melody actually) had her samsung moment 2 years and was just about to upgrade (after her FIFTH one,) when I downloaded her first app. (A fart app, of course.) She's a little more app savvy now, but you can sure as shit bet via 3G only.

If iphones had LTE and unlimited plans the numbers would be much closer. I myself rarely use WiFi. I use my WiFi tablet at home and i only use about 75% or so of my data cap so i just won't bother with WiFi on my phone, if i'm paying for the data i might aswell use it.
Just another clickbate article ment to attract iDiot tards with their ridiculous comments, just like the one below.

What? Of course the 50% number means something. What does the number of LTE phones currently out there have to do with anything? You stated that it was about proportion of population, I followed through that thread of your argument, and then you switched metrics--number of LTE phones, which is largely irrelevant, unless you're returning to my earlier statement about speeds.

No, it's not surprising in the least--there's no reason whatsoever to use wifi, except for the really marginal battery improvement. And as the article noted, it's even less surprising given the difference in wifi notifications.

Your 50% number means absolutely nothing here, as that has no effect on the number of LTE phones currently out. And I have Verizon and use wifi all the time even though I have unlimited data.

It's not surprising at all that over two-thirds of users have never used wifi?

Sure, obviously, although Verizon's LTE network covered more than 50% of the US population in August of 2011, so 68% may not be far off. The point here is that Android users on Sprint and Verizon probably have unlimited data, and so there's no real reason for them to ever use wifi. It never even occurs to me to use wifi--and if wifi crosses my mind, it's because I'm tethering.

My iphone wi-fi dependence (>98% of monthly data usage) is attributable solely to AT&Ts atrocious 3G "network" in NYC which is still largely unusable unless you are outside, on a roof, strapped to an AT&T cell tower, at 4am, during a solar eclipse (and even then it's iffy). I rely on my work VZW phone to make voice calls since walking outside to try and hunt down usable voice signal is a huge annoyance.

If I use 20-30mb of cell data per month, that's a huge month, 5-10mb is more typical.
