It didn't launch before Christmas because AT&T is still holding on to the iPhone and wouldn't negotiate a deal that launched early. They wanted all the Christmas sales to go to them, then give it over to Verizon.

Why would Apple make an CDMA iPhone just for Verizon? GSM is the current global standard. Apple is a global company. It sells iPhones globally. It makes no sense for them to produce 'a special version' for a CDMA network that in global terms is 'small beer'.

Verizon have now seen the light and have launched a 4G network (LTE), leap frogging the technology. This makes it even more unlikely that Apple will spend millions in order to support CDMA.

I read that Apple is selling 30,000 iPhones a day during the Christmas selling period, that coupled with the iPad going out the door (and in many places you can't find it,) I'm sure that the added headache of another service's phone being sold by Apple or Verizon during this period would be catastrophic for delivery entities. I also read on MacInsider that Verizon needs to sell the iPhone because the Droid is not doing as well as they had hoped. In fact if you look at the smartphone sales for the last 8 months on Verizon, they show just a small increase in Droid sales over the past few months while RIM is dying on the vine. I think that the new iPad2 will not only have the ability to work on ATT but on Verizon as well. Also, Goldman-Sachs forecasted that Apple stock to be in the upper $400 over the next year. That tells me that they anticipate a large sales increase from one of the Apple product lines.

Wait, what's hard to understand about the iPhone's release being at the "end of the holiday season?" That seems pretty straight forward to me, but if you need some clarification, personally, I'd be happy to help you.

But how on Earth is "high priority" confusing to you? Does it really not make any sense to you that Apple would want to get the iPhone into Verizon stores? So much so, in fact, that they would make it a priority to do so?

The article makes little sense about launch date. "End of the holiday season? High priority?" Huh? Even if an article is to be written based upon rumors, the author needs to take some responsibility for explaining things better.

The technology behind one of the 4G platforms (the other being WiMax). Both are similar and promise the same benefits of voice/data all on the same freq bands.
It's a wonder though if this one will actually be able to make a call though either.

True, getting it out before Christmas would have been the best way to go. But, if the rumors about the device are true, then conversations between Apple and Verizon haven't always gone so smoothly, so this may be the soonest they could legitimately launch the device.

Plus, think about all those people who will be returning gifts right after Christmas. Gives them plenty of money to get their own 4G iPhone. Haha
