The usual idea is that you would use NFC to set up the link between the two devices and then do an automatic hand over to a different protocol for doing the actual transfer of data – eg Bluetooth,iphone 5

STFU with your rumors!!! One day it’s mid-September, the next is early august, then early September, then late July, then early 2012, now late October?! WTF?! Basically you have NO clue, just like all of us, as to when the iPhone is coming. How reliable are your “sources”? Hey, I’m a source too! I just heard that the iPhone’s EXACT release date is November 27th! <– See what I did here? Yea, it's very simple to start a rumor. I'm just as excited as the next Apple fan about the release of the iPhone 5. Let's just keep our panties on and wait until it comes out, there's not a damn thing we can do until it comes, so PLEASE, stop it with your BS speculations, all of you tech website are starting to sound like idiots, barking up the latest noise you hear without thinking twice.

At&t’s September rev up will be for preordering the new iPhone. It will most likely be announced at the iPod event in September, and preorders should begin shortly after. I am sure that At&t does not want what happened last time to happen again.
