Wow. I just came across this post cause I saw an AT&T commercial about how their iPhone is 3x faster. I was like, 3x faster than what, molasses?

These speeds make me cry and laugh at the same time.

On T-Mobile in NYC I get 15 Mbps in my BASEMENT apartment in Brooklyn.

iPhone…pffft.

Thanks Seth Rickyy. When the writer says, “with each having to differentiate based on other factors like network speed” and “Although the comparison isn’t exactly scientific, it does give you an idea of what you might expect,” one detects corporate public relations at work.

What’s the the point of posting the results of a test if the test is not scientific? The results of an unscientific test DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT give one an idea of what to expect. DUH.

Also, network speed is not an “other” factor– it’s the MOST IMPORTANT factor.

My experience with AT&T and their network has been an ugly farce. This article is shameless corporate propaganda, disguised as friendly tech-blogging. Aaaarg!!!

I have Verizon and I love that I can travel and have reliable coverage that I can’t get with AT&T or Sprint and I am okay with paying the extra for nation wide coverage.

Verizon 4g lte network had 3 major nation wide network outages, sprint wi max network is slow because they still offer unlimited data plans, mainly to attract customer s in a, contract.but it will change one day when they have enough $ to start lte network. Tmobile and att the merges, that was a smart idea, a really smart idea. A tone of new devices, expanding lte in major cites, and a fast hpsa ,if lte has an outage. Because when verizon has a let outage their 3g is2 no faster than sprint, that sucks. I’ve got iPhone 4S on Sprint, and speed is really spotty. At the best, I can get 400 Kbps, but usually it’s more like 100 Kbps, and often in the range of 50 Kbps. Sprint support replies with baloney like “natural and man-made physical barriers”, but I know for a fact that these “barriers” are not stopping Verizon signal. So sad Sprint can’t really make it.

I just got the iphone 4S with AT&T yesterday and the internet is really fast so I don’t know what these people on previous posts are talking about. So I would agree with the article. ATT has the fastest data network for the iphone 4S.

Buddy you jerk off, ATT is linked to a tower in Kentucky, and the other two phones are connected to server in Chicago. This test is biased.. marketing tool. ATT service is horrible.

You definitely see it in an hspa+ 42mbps device like the htc amaze 4G. I get CONSISTENTLY between 8mbps-15mbps and rarely it hits 20mbps. Not only that T-Mobile’s devices have INSANELY better battery life than Verizon LTE devices. A lot of people don’t realize this and it’s a shame because they have less funding to advertise. T-Mobile is also the only carrier to support Wifi Calling, so any wifi hotspot can be recognized, anywhere in the world, as your cell tower for calls/text. Perfect in place indoors with poor reception or if network outages occur also if you travel internationally there are no international roaming charges when making calls through wifi.

The TMOBILE SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 and HTC AMAZE can reach 26mbps and 18mbps consistent in Houston…

AT&T don’t have 4g as the lowest speed should be 21mbps to call 4g…
My cousin works as software engineer for AT&T for 5 years and told me that they they only have 14.4 in SOME CITIES then 7.2 in more cities then 3.6mbps, those are theoretical… It means in 14.4mbps cities, they will see only the fastest is 10-11mbps with 4-5 average.

TMOBILE has 42mbps for hundred cities now, thats why they can boast to say, they have the largest 4g footprints than any carrier…

AT&T the SLOWEST NETWORK…then SPRINT WIMAX then TMOBILE 42mbps hspa+ & LTE by VERIZON…

You re probably right about Apple waiting on “AT&T” to play catch up with Verizon! Like yourself I was disappointed about the absence of 4G but I believe it will be better serve come next year for all of US as the carriers continued to completer their 4G Coverage! Can’t wait! In the meantime,I do love my 4S still :-) Go Siri!!

Are you KIDDING ME???!!! T-Mobile’s HSPA+ is “pretty fast?” Nah, it’s VERY fast and that’s why AT&T wants to get their dirty little hands on it.

The funny thing to me is that people with iPhones will now be bragging about how they are getting 5Mbps down, and my old T-Mobile G2 (bless its heart) got that last year.

Idiotic test … speed varies from carrier to carrier based on vicinity of the physical location of tower and topology of geographic area. Even if it shows “full bars”, it’s not to say that one tower / speed is affected by how far away the tower is.

these speeds will vary depending on where you live. and im guessing this video is in a market with ALOT of traffic on ALL networks. AT&T is the fastest and will always have the fastest 3G, HSPA+ network. I have a Inspire and usually get around 4-5 mbps which isnt too shabby. i aint complaining. i really dont NEED 20+ mbps on my phone. thats more of a want then need :).

But you will never see those speeds. You’re completely naive if you think you will. You MAY get 6-7 if you’re lucky. It’s hardly 4G. Still insanely faster than Verizon 3G, but not 4G.

AT&T HSPA + upgrade for 4G for Iphone 4S is coming in an updage in Novemeber. then there will be no comparsion as HSPA + can get up to 14 MBPS download.

I just completed a test with iPhone 4S in Brooklyn,NY on ATT network… avg download 5.35 Mbps, upload 1.73 Mbps, ping delay 118 ms… Prior to iPhone 4S the 3GS speed readings were between 1.5 and 2.2 Mbps download, and 0.17 and 0.21 for upload, with 448 for ping…all test using same server in Newark, NJ. It would be quite interesting to get a few more readings from other cities around the country.

With Verizon on an iPhone 4 I have a download speed of .84mbps – which is admittedly crap compared to when i switch on wireless networking since I have FiOS (12.61mbps) but better than reported here. Verizon services really do rely on where you are.

With that said, AT&T was still faster than Sprint and was almost on par with Verizon. If you take into account that AT&T had a worse signal than Sprint and Verizon, comparatively it did the best.

I dont know dude, HSPA+ on T-Mobile is pretty fast too. It still blows away HSPA+ on AT&T and WiMAX on Sprint. While at times T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network will hit Verizon LTE speeds, not all phones are capable of that speed, so its all subjective anyway.

This test confirms what Ive been saying for the last 10 months, Sprint 3G SUCKS. They claim they have a reliable dependable network, but thats only true if you enjoy dialup or ISDN speeds and dont actually like using data on your phone. Sure they offer Unlimited plans, and they claim youre not throttled for using too much, but in reality, they throttled everyone network wide, so it doesnt matter.

lol, the “faster” ATT download went to a different server than the sprint and verizon. Can you redo the test with all three downloading from the same site?
