I think it has been blown out of proportion due to Jobs' hype. While I applaud Apple for coming out with such a high resolution and high dpi display (one that I imagine other manufacturers will be matching soon), I think they were a little late getting to the party. My Droid is not so far behind with a 265 dpi (vs. Apple's 326 dpi) 854x480 display, and it is not alone in its res. In fact, my 2 year old HTC Fuze had 285 dpi by my calculations at 2.8" and 640x480.

I think Jobs just felt the need to over-compensate after letting their display remain the same through the first three iPhones when everybody else was producing more and more densely packed displays.

Yes it does appear the media is blowing this out of proportion and some outlets, unfortunately look for any story they can to paint Apple as deceptive.

I came across this article for any skeptics who are also intelligent and want a deeper look at the science behind resolution that validates Dr. Beaudot's viewpoint.

I am pretty sure the picture behind Jobs shows an iris, not a retina -- goes to tell how highly Apple think of their target audience. I cannot be bothered with watching the entire video to see if any additional anatomic insight is provided, remaining skeptical...
