iPhone 4 remains top seller despite iPhone 5 hype

All the hype surrounding the iPhone 5 hasn't put a damper on iPhone 4 sales. According to Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley, a survey of US carriers show that the iPhone 4 has remained the top selling smartphone for the past three months on both Verizon and AT&T. This is quite impressive since the current-gen iPhone is already more than a year old.

Walkley also found that thanks to the $50 entry-level price for the iPhone 3GS, it manages to take second place for the past three months on AT&T, the only carrier that offers it. In third is the Samsung Infuse 4G. On Verizon, the iPhone 4 is followed by the Samsung Charge 4G in second and the HTC Thunderbolt 4G in third.

It's extra surprising that the iPhone 4 still tops even the most recent August sales given all the buzz on the incoming iPhone 5, which is now expected to launch in late October along with iOS 5. Walkley predicts that the iPhone 5 will be available on the Now Network in addition to AT&T and Verizon and that sales should be strong globally through the holiday season.
