iPhone 4 not having Flash sucks does it?

About Flash on the iPhone:

1. How can it suck to have something that isn’t even finished? For starters, Flash Lite is hardly an enviable feature in anybody’s estimation and, as I said, the highly anticipated Flash 10.1 isn’t shipping yet, even for the one device they’ve been producing beta demos for (the Nexus One, never mind the other Android and non-Android phones Adobe has promised to support this year).

2. HTML 5 video solutions have much better performance on the iPad/iPhone than Flash 10.1 does on Android. Just look at the examples on YouTube. When you enable Flash, the page stutters when scrolling and the browser maker can do nothing to improve the experience without Adobe. Conversely, sites like The Onion, CNN, and SlashGear look and play very well. No Flash, and yet, just a great user experience. Meanwhile, most major games are producing native iOS ports.

3. Lastly, any iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad user can browse Flash powered websites anytime they like. It’s extremely easy to do, cost free, and allows you to visits Flash heavy sites like Cartoon Network, NBC.com, CollegeHumor, and even Meez.com at your leisure. Just go to the AppStore and download Cloud Browse. I was listening to a video clip from Jimmy Kimmel the other day on it. Works great. NBC needs to support HTML 5 though. Seriously. It’s not a standards friendly practice to offer up Flash as a requirement and deny users content unless they put Adobe’s plugin on their device.

Hopefully this gives you guys something to think about. Apple doesn’t need to support Flash at all. In fact, if websites want to continue embracing Flash, they risk alienating a fast growing community of visitors. That this would be unwise is an understatement.
