One thing that's rarely mentioned about the new ipad's retina display is that it has a very strong anti-aliasing filter. This makes the display far more sympathetic to text and graphics but less so for photographs and other imagery. The debate among camera sensor manufacters over the stength of the anti-aliasing filter is unresolved, some believe too strong a filter kills detail. The actual size of the iPad's ant-aliasing filter is massive when compared to a camera sensors, where full frame is 24mm x 36 mm. Given that the iPad's anti-aliasing filter apears to be focused toward text and graphics, I wonder if the new display may diminish the experience of photography and hd video. i would be very interested if professional photography and video sites did some tests regarding this issue.

The difference is definitely noticeable. I didn't think the iPad 2 screen was by any means pixelated, but now after playing with my new one, the iPad 2 my dad owns just looks grainy. It's like the 3GS to iPhone 4. I didn't think the 3GS was pixelated really, but not it just looks awful to me.

That's what I thought, 75% brightness is too bright for me indoors, and is plenty for outdoors in the sun, as long as the sun itself isn't reflecting off the screen lol

worship the apple. covet the new ipad. gaze at it's zillion pixels... I checked out a friend's new ipad over the weekend. nice unit. wish I would have had an ipad2 to compare it to, but I'm guessing that I probably wouldn't be able to tell them apart with my naked eye at a reasonable view distance. the mac mini is looking more and more like the choice for me.
