The link below shows that the ipad mini has 512 mb ram and the nexus 7 has 1gb. The a5 outperforms average cpus becuase its an average cpu. compared to real android deices/cpu it gets RAPED!. oh yea and the camera is shit compared to anything from a decent android phone.

shitty a5? 512MB RAM? scaled down ipad 2? you couldn’t be more wrong on everything. a5 outperforms the average android, it actually has 1GB RAM and as for scaled down ipad 2. it actually has higher pixel density due to smaller screen, siri, maps (debatable on quality), iSight camera which is much better than android cameras. Also has much better software than android. You really are sounding like a robot.

So, robotboy, it seems that it is actually the nexus which has 512MB ram, slow and outdated in today’s requirements. Apple know this and this is why they have 1GB. This makes iOS even better for gaming too….

Clearly you havent played a tegra 3 game on a nexus and seen how much better it looks than any iOS game. As a guy who sold his iPhone and iPad to buy a Galaxy SIII and Nexus 7, I can honestly say Apple is always just a hair behind the technology though I could never see it as an “iSheep” Though Android has its own set of quirks. Seriously though it is sad that of all things Apple thinks is important thumb rejection is on the list. When will Apple give users expandable memory, or near field communications? And how can Apple expect the iPad Mini to compete with the Nexus 7 when a 32gb Nexus 7 will soon be out and only cost $249 compared to the minis 329 for a 16gb… You want to yell at Android users and call them ignorant? Have you seen our side of the fence because the grass really is greener here.

No other company other than Apple whips up such a media frenzy and claim revolutionary technology at every release. And the sad fact is that they have, in fact, innovated very little. Other than a few business practises, which tbh aren’t really new (vertical integration), all their innovation is in marketing and maybe a little in design (but that’s pushing it) – the technological innovations they claim are based on a revisionist history (cf. innovation in marketing) which they get away with because most people are uninformed about what really came before, or don’t care – they just want to feel better because, they may be a cleaner or a barista, but they have an iPhone! It’s about tapping ego and artificially inflating self-worth.

Of course most innovation is incremental – but it’s the Apple BS machine that claims otherwise.

nope it still has a very low ppi low res screen (same ppi as an iphone 2g :)), a shitty a5 processor with its garbage cortex a9 cpu, 512mb of ram (same as the iphone 4), the ipad mini is a scaled down ipad 2….

Expecting every release will have some huge innovation is unrealistic – and nobody expects if from any other company other than Apple. Name a company that released something amazingly innovative with every release? It shouldn’t be expected. There are incremental changes that get introduced most of the time – and every so often something completely new and innovative. That’s what’s realistic.

Have you used Apple maps? The problems are so overblown it’s ridiculous. I have driven all over with it and the navigation was spot on every time. Some points of interest are off, but that’s about it. Also, Google maps have provided wrong directions for me in the past – so it’s not perfect either.

Not entirely true – process and screen the same (although the screen has higher pixel density since it is the same resolution in a smaller size, making it a bit sharper) – but all other specs are updated to be the same as the latest iPad retina – including better camera specs, latest bluetooth tech, LTE (on cellular version), Siri integration, etc.

Outspecs? Ha! Nexus 7 has a higher resolution, 1.2 ghz quad core processor (compared to 1 ghz dual), and dose in fact have a 16 gb model. There is some speculation that Google will bump the entry level model to 16 and introduce a 32 gb model at $250. Google Maps also work, unlike Apple’s Maps. I’m fairly sure the Nexus 7 has more RAM too.

Just a chunk of code logic to detect a thumb press based on the width (number) of pixels pressed then ignore or not to ignore it based on the screen context at the time.
Big hairy deal! Another potential Apple patent to be used to block others from using thumbs. We see though this. Create a glove with 5 thumbs to fool this sh*t pad.

Sure, a smaller bezel is great – thumb rejection technology is great – but don’t think neither is new – palm rejection technology for touchpads on laptops has been around for years, and the thin bezel is only thanks to innovation at the panel manufacturer (LG,Samsung,Sharp?).
And I wasn’t really ridiculing this feature – I was ridiculing Apple’s complete lack of innovation. They’re complacent, which is a real shame because I liked them better when they did “Think different” – that slogan has a different meaning today than perhaps it once did for them. Today it means to think irrationally.

So what you seem to be saying is that it couldn’t be any good, otherwise the iPad maxi would have looked more average.

And for the price you’re paying for these iPad minis and maxis it had better be worth it.

Apple’s doing a great job devaluing the brand all by themselves. After seeing them spend so much time comparing it to the Nexus 7 I’d be checking out the Nexus too, because I Apple think it’s worth beating, it must be pretty good.

the original iPad was revolution for tablets in general but, once i finally got one i realized i needed 3 hands, (2 tjsut to hold it). The worst part was that, if i wanted to type a message efficiently i was still forced to use some kind of surface… Split kb in io5 was a relief, and still found a way to let us down by limiting user configuration options. Finally Apple gives us an ipad thats small and (at least i hope anyway) light enough to hold for long periods of time, and allow (efficient) use of opposable thumbs but 1024 by 768, wtf? For you iPad 3 owners, i would recommend the lot of you to exchange that piece of trash and have them upgrade it to the ipad 4 under warranty because this is just plain dirty! Moo… Milk us Apple! For all we are worth. And bring a foxconn like factory to the states, we need employment. You can find disenfranchised laborers here, we just call it the middle class (i kid) (sort of…)

What else was up your sleeve before you died Jobs? Im an Apple fan (switcher). Now i feel dirty like i just boinked a hooker raw. Shame on you!

So you do not think it is a good innovation to be able to shrink the bezel and keep the width down? It also adds to the look of the device. I always thought the ipad maxi bezel looked too thick.
It is a good idea so the ipad mini can have a larger screen but keep fairly narrow.
Out of everything re the ipad mini this is probably the last thing that should be ridiculed. There are other things that can be picked at sure – but not this.

It isn’t meant to out shine the ipad maxi. That is why they have done it.

Also I’m not sure why people keep quoting $130 over a nexus 7. Firstly let’s compare like with like. The nexus 16gb is $249 so we are talking about a $80 difference. Considering the use of premium materials like aluminium, a rear camera etc then the difference is actually justifiable. It would make no sense for apple to price lower on so many levels … needs to be higher than ipod touch pricing, use of premium materials, would devalue the brand etc.

If you are suggesting that I am fan of Android, then.. meh.. put me down as a long time technology neutral that buys what is good – sometimes MS, sometimes Apple, once I owned a NeXTcube. Today, a mix of Android (but had iPhone 3GS before), Windows and Mac (I develop for multiple platforms). I’ve just been around long enough to know that Apple today is worthy of ridicule and as a Mac stalwart I feel betrayed by the direction the company is taking.

Apple should include a can of bullshit repellent with the Minipad. I never thought I would say this, but I am embarrassed for Apple. This Minipad reminds me so much of General Motors 1980 attempt to take a Chevy Citation and throw some different sheet metal on it call it a Cadillac Cimmaron.

iPad Mini. 2007 iPhone screen resolution with a 2 year old iPad 2 internals for $ 130 premium over a similar Nexus 7. The hubris of Apple has never been greater. Yammering for months about inferior devices screen resolution and how necessary Retina display is and then this…………lame excuse for a premium tablet. If Steve Jobs doesn’t come back and haunt Apple management….that’s proof enough for me that ghosts don’t exist.
