The funny thing is that when first dropped Nexus 7 landed in the exact same way of the iPad MIni in the second drop… both shattered in the same manner. Besides that the test is stupid.. noone will ever drop the tablet in the position of the test..

A lot of people put their devices in protective cases. This
drop test showed how important this is, why not a drop test to evaluate
different protective cases?

So, what was proven is that your test method is truly worthless. Nothing scientific here. Just a stunt. a “Back drop” test consisted only of holding the tablets “face up” to drop them. They landed in whatever position hit first and the damage to both resulted from the strike point of impact.

Conclusion: Read or watch a vid from true testing facilities / organizations if you want to gain perspective on how rugged these electronic devices are. Only watch this Slash Gear test for entertainment value.

The hype trying to get the iPad Mini noticed is funny. Look what happens when Apple tries to enter a market where it has to compete. It fails. Yes, Apple will sell some millions of them but that pales in comparison to the market.

I’m an engineer..this was a lousy test…if you are going to drop it on it’s back then make sure it happens…so on and so forth…not a valid test…matter of fact…very invalid…who pays for your trip to Hong Kong to do this….you should have saved the $$$$.

Probably the stupidest test I’ve ever seen. If your trying to drop it face down… how about actually dropping it correctly on the right angle. Also… you should use a different device for each drop! You keep using the busted device for every other drop. LOL. This test only proved one thing… the person doing the test needs his head examined.

Stupid test. The angles of the drops for the two devices were not the same, so it’s incomparable, especially since only 3 tests were done.

Looked to me like the mini landed the same way in every drop, on it’s side. Not much of a test. Since both are ruined, I’d be squeezing out bigger tears if I dropped an expensive mini…

I owned an iPhone once. It stopped working every time I dropped it, even onto carpet. The repair was a flat rate $275 (which is more than the original manufacturing cost). If Apple is willing to refund the $1000+ I’ve already paid in repairs for their silly gadget, I MIGHT consider buying another silly gadget from them in the future. Since I know that won’t happen, I’ll be getting a Nexus 7 as soon as I find a store that isn’t already sold out.

The iPad repair will be less than $75 (display is not fused with digitizer) the nexus is junked. Now, let me explain why. The nexus housing is destroyed, and it’s only a $200 gadget. It should be junked (sold for spate parts value, appx $100.) if you drop your nexus, sell it on eBay and just buy a new one.

The iPad will have a usable housing in most cases, is more valuable, has higher resale value. It’s therefore worth the $25 digitizer (that’s a 3 month down the road price) and $50 repair.

Looks to me it’s possible apple designed the iPad to turn in free fall, but could be a coincidence.
