Hi have just purchased the S5T to use on my iPhone 4 and iPad but it does not work on my Bose docking station, it is one of the first that came out. Not sure what the model is as there are no details on it. Can you help? Have tried the device on another docking station and it works great, such a waste of money not to be able to use the Bose with my fruit devices..:(

I know wirefreehifi.com will ship to the US (from the UK) – looking at their site it would be around $124 for both dongles and shipping.

As far as I can tell, the volume controls on the iPad are adjusting the volume on the tablet itself, not the dock volume. So hopefully that would mean your dock would be okay.

Thanks for the reply. I did miss the no-battery advantage. Did you notice if the volume change was done at the iPod (changing the level at its output) or at the dock itself? If the latter, then this feature may require the dock to be compatible, and I'm not sure my dock is compatible (Keyspan AV Dock) link.

Adjusting the iPad’s volume does change the volume out of the dock’s speakers, so there’s no need to use a separate remote for that. I agree that you could simply use one of the regular headphone-plug transmitters, but then you’d also have to remember to charge that up – the S5T gets its power from the dock connector, meanwhile.

Since the S5T is going to be attached to the iPod/iPad/iPhone, it’s not that important if the dock’s controls work, especially with the smaller devices. What’s more important is if the volume control in the iPod works with the dock. As far as I know the output in the iPod’s dock connector is a line out so it’s not varied by the iPod’s volume control. It would be a hassle to use the iPod for selecting music, and a separate remote (the dock’s) to control volume. If this is the case, I see no advantage whatsoever for them using the dock connector in the S5T instead of just a regular 1/8″ stereo plug like the other small adapters available. With those adapters you could do everything this one does, plus control volume.
