Well, I downloaded like 100 times over the past month – it usually goes like this:

Look… my kids dowload TONS of apps and games daily before deleting most of them. The amount downloaded only says how many were downloaded and nothing about a platform-so lets try and stop using terms like ‘outperforming’…

It isn’t a matter of defending, it is a matter of identifying how the market is trending. Those stats matter more than current market share. This isn’t a “Fandroid” defense, it is stating well known sales figures. Apple insists on being independent of the carriers, retailers, etc. Which products do you think they are going to push?

Thanks for the defense. I don’t get how clarifying the difference in amount of time on market could be a factor makes me a “Fandroid”. If the timing were reversed you’d be hearing apple fans crying about how they’ve only been on the market a short time, but wait and see what we do! Please. Even with the shortened time to compete on market, Android still has a larger market share. I guess their motto should be “Deny, Deny, Deny!!”

Failing? Last time I checked, Android was the number one smartphone platform in the world. On top of this, tablets were a year late to market but are slowly eroding the ipads market the same way they did phones. Year 1: Ipad has a 95% market(only crappy windows 7 tablets to compete), year 2: around 80%, and now it sits around 65%. Which way do you think it is trending?

Actually, it isn’t a fail. You just clearly no nothing of how the structuring of an android application works. Of course an optimized layout is ideal but it is not necessary. There are an abundance of android apps that were made for phones that work flawlessly on my tablet. Unfortunately, you isheep can’t see past what Stevy told you you want. Have you ever seen what happens when you open an iphone app on an ipad? Let me tell you, you get a 3.5″ screen in the middle with it blacked out for the remaining space. Oh, but they give you the option to scale up……..into a blurred mess.

Thing is, most android apps have to deal with so many resolutions that they are all made in HD to start. This results in a clean looking app at tablet size. And the SDK also allows for all the icons and menus to properly space out as the screen size increases. I guess you never noticed that the android market doesn’t have a specific section for tablet apps eh? It is because it doesn’t need one. Apple may have the market right now, but they were shortsighted in terms of development. If they ever come out with a 7″ IPad, you will be waiting for your ipad apps to be compatible because they weren’t coded to have to scale yet again.

He actually has a good point that is how it works with android. And yest they do need different layouts to use all of that extra real estate that is not present on a phone. Ipads and iphones are doing much better at this point but different layouts for apps is still a work in progress.

I am so sick of hearing android tablet apps vs ipad apps. The amount of Ipad apps and ipad app downloads is actually a flaw, not a benefit. Android apps from the days of handsets are designed to be scalable because they have to accomodate different screen sizes. As a result, a lot of apps don’t require a tablet specific app because they scale up properly. The reason apple has to do this is because developers only ever had to code for one 3.5″ screen size and therefore have to restructure their apps for the larger screen.

It took around 18 months to pass the 3bn download point, whereas iPhone took around two years.” So why is it then a surprise that Android is lagging behind in downloads? The good tablets haven’t been around for 18 months. Plus, I would guess people are app-tired. they already played around with the novelty apps, and now just download what they need/want. So I would expect those to slow down for all of them. But I suppose only time will tell.
