I remember when 4s pop up in the inventory and everyone was looking for a iphone5. I pretty sure this will end up being the same case.

Not necessarily. When the iPhone 3G came out they didn’t really sell a 3G iPhone and a non-3G iPhone. They could very much call it iPad HD to dramatically distinguish it from the iPad 2 if they continue to sell the older model at a lower price point. Actually as I type this out, it makes more sense to do it that way than just call it iPad 3. For the next go around, it could simply become iPad 4 since HD would become the default anyway.

I really don’t think they’d start a whole new numbering system for the iPads. What would next years be called? The iPad HD 2? That would just cause confusion for consumers. If “HD” is in the name I imagine it implies that Apple will sell HD iPad 3′s and non-HD iPad 3′s.
